A Renegade Falls 29. Januar 2015
Von Keith S. Borders - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
Where we left off: Peter Stancheck and his fellow Renegades escaped from the virtual reality/mind captivity confines of the Harbinger Foundation. With a member of Generation Zero in tow, they resolve to stop running and end things once and for all with the Harada and his Harbinger Foundation.

Harbinger Vol. 7 represents the finale of the Harbinger series. Finale? Yep, it all ends here, folks. We have reached The End. Now, you’re learning this for the first time, you’re either feeling despair at the end of an awesome comic, or anger that you’ve made the investment in this series and it appears to be all over. Let me clear things up – Harbinger “the series” is over after this issue. Harbinger “the story” continues on.

What is presented in this volume is a truly masterful piece of work from Joshua Dysart and the artists involved. This is an epic read of twists, turns, back-stabs, shocks and surprises. New characters are introduced, and old faces make surprise reappearances. No punch is pulled… Dysart overturns every apple cart that we have come to expect out of this series, and in so doing, leaves the Valiant Universe in a very uncertain, very unsafe place. One simply has to read the first few pages of the trade, written to show the very near future, to understand just how incredible this volume is going to be. I for one was dreading that what I was reading would turn out to be a dream or some other misdirection… nope, they weren’t fooling, this is really happening!!

Unfortunately, as the title of the trade suggests, a loss is suffered by the Renegades. I thought the death of this character was handled brilliantly. Although we’d known for months prior that someone was going to die, the scene itself was quick and unexpected: this life is snuffed out right in the middle of a conflict and leaving no time for our stunned characters to gather their wits. It is only much later that what remains of the Renegades can grieve, and the revelations and manifestations of that grief are extremely well played. What makes it all the more impactful is the understanding that this character is gone for good. No cheap resurrections in the Valiant Universe!

As stated above… this volume represents the end of the Harbinger series. But things aren’t over… not by a long shot. Indeed, while the Renegades have tried to end their war with the Harbinger Foundation, they may have only succeeded in unleashing something even worse on the world… bring on Harbinger: Omegas!!
Dysart does it again! 19. September 2014

Hold on to your hats as the Renegades blast into the home stretch of their war against the Harbinger foundation and it's leader, Toyo Harada!

Dysart continues his masterful work of authoring the best comic book series I've read in many years. He NAILS this story to the wall, and you don't even mind that the nail is through your hand and into the wall because the story is THAT GOOD!

I don't want to give away too much about the actual plot because the journey should be enjoyed as you read it. Suffice it to say though that Peter, Kris, Faith, Flamingo, Torque, and @x work to pull off the ultimate plan to finally overcome Harada and his designs on ruling the world from the shadows. After everything they've gone through, and from the title of the collection, you can guess that not all of the team is going to make it to the end, and you'd be right. But how it plays out is amazing and the little details are just... beautiful.

Dysart defies convention. When the death happens, it isn't the final panel of one of the books, leaving a cliffhanger for the next issue. It's in the middle of everything and nobody has time to really stop what their doing and grieve or cope. Just like in real life. Stuff happens and sometimes you just have to bottle it up for now and find a way to deal with it later.

There are other storytelling gems as well, like the revelation that Kris lets loose in the aftermath, which twists so much around if you go back and reread the very first issue again! And the way Torque manifests his guilt after the battle is psychologically intricate and exquisite.

As always, I urge anyone reading this to read more of Valiant comics great titles (unless you're already reading all of them like me!). That's one (okay, two) of the great things about this shared universe: It's young (only a couple years of stories to catch up on), and it's limited (they are self limiting to only publishing up to 9 monthly titles at this time at least). It makes it reasonably possible to collect the entire universe, which I highly recommend! And if it says 'Harbinger' or 'Dysart' on the cover, then put it at the top of the stack of stuff to read!!!
Harbinger vol #5 Death of a renegade tpb review 14. März 2015

The renegades led by Peter Stanchek, one of the worlds most powerful psiots,Faith a psiot flyer,Torque a psiot who is an invalid who has a hard light shell that is super strong and has a high degree of indestructability.,Flamingo a psiot who generates and controls fire, and Kris normal but smart.have been on the run from Toyo Harada CEO of the Harbinger Foundation one of the worlds largest conglomerates who seek to change the world and eliminate whoever is in there way.Once operating in secret this time is about to change

future soon ..Now in the public eye Harada is ordered to give himself up but that is not in Harada's plans. The worlds governments order him to surrender himself turn in all info he has and give up his students but that is not going to happen

now.. Harada is up for a nobel piece prize for advancing medicine ,peace in the middle east and for billions he donated.part of his plan. What he doesn't know is project rising spirit (a rival organization) has been hacked. There secret info exposed including info on the harbinger foundation is revealed. They will go after the hacker and eliminate him if possible.Who will get to him first, the renegades,P.R.S.,or Harada...That is only the beginning of the story I couldn't put down this tpb.

Dysart knows how to craft a story that makes me want to read it again.to see what I may have missed the first time around.Another reason why I keep on buying Valiant tpbs is they give a good chunk of story for a few bucks,Well worth the money IMHO .For a good read buy this book
Perfection Again 20. Oktober 2014

The Harbinger kids/renegades and the Harbinger foundation see the future very differently. Toyo Harada, the perfect billionaire and Nobel laureate, wants to give the world the best possible leadership, namely himself, while the kids, all will difficult backgrounds, will do (and does) anything to stop him. This conflict has slowly grown through 25 issues while Joshua Dysart both calmly has let us get to know and love the kids, and also served good action and thought provoking events.

In the previous trade, the conflict escalated and the world will never be the same again. Here we see the continued escalation and its results. As revealed by the trade's title (and in line with the first incarnation of this title in the 90s), there is an important and sad event in this trade. However (and ironically in a book about superhumans), it is the human aspect that is important. What happens are not cheap gimmics, but events that are fully explored for how they effect all concerned.

This trade collects issues 20 to 25 (with 25 being a special anniversary issue with extra features). This makes it a very generous collection of issues. that each are superb and together are more than perfect. The art from LaRosa, Henry and Evans in the different issues work well together and the extra features from issue 25 make a nice bonus, on top of the art and cover gallery we have gotten used to from other trades.

I can not enough say how much I recommend this series and especially this trade.
Ends With Both a Bang and a Wimper 20. Januar 2015

It goes without saying that a member of the main cast dies in this one right?

In the final volume covering the ongoing Harbinger series, Dysart tackles some pretty big themes. What happens when a bunch of poorly prepared teenagers push up against a not-so-well-meaning adult and his carefully prepared system? What happens then to said adult when his plans fall into ruin? What does death mean for super-powered children?

It's dense stuff and like most things Dyasrt writes, it's thoughtful, thought-provoking and in many ways the opposite of what we've all come to expect out of traditional "spandex and tights" books. The death scene itself bucks the usual comic conventions but it will get your attention. All fictional characters should be treated with this level of respect.

There's more here than just death though. The character of aX gets introduced as a very modern computer hacker out to take down the big, bad corporation. It works well with the larger story being told and the flashback/flash forward scenes do a lot to set up the final showdown.

Without a doubt, Dysart sends the series out with both a bang and a wimper. If you've read any of the previous volumes, you need to read this one too. And if you're a fan of the Harbinger series from the past, you'll really want to check this out and compare. All around a book worth your time and worthy of being in the Valiant stable.
