Kurzbeschreibung

It’s been six months since the Pride Gallery murders in Manhattan. Kyle Callahan and his partner Danny Durban head to rural New Jersey for a relaxing week with their dear friend, Detective Linda Sikorsky, recently retired and newly in love. Driving back from dinner with Linda and her fiancée Kirsten, they discover the body of Abigail Creek, run off the road on a bicycle wearing only her nightgown and slippers. Kyle and Linda quickly find themselves learning more than they want to know about the Creek family and the home they call CrossCreek Farm. In the words of Clara Presley’s grandmother, “Whatever grows there, grows in the shadows.” Come along as Linda and Kyle make their way into the shadows and enter the spider’s web, determined to find out who in this family of spiders is the deadliest one.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Entertaining from beginning to end. 20. Juni 2014

Death in the Headlights, a fast paced, crisply written who dun it, was a thoroughly enjoyable read. The back stories of Kyle Callahan & Linda Sikorsky's possible relationship crisis added to the suspense, will she, won't she, don't we all at times, and maybe all the time, carry around mysteries about ourselves? All the while trying to solve a murder most heinous.
And I can't forget the historical vignettes about people and places that are woven through the book. Did you know how Delaware got its name and that the Delaware River..., I won't give it away, you'll have to have a good read and then you'll know, or the wonderful descriptions of the people and places that inhabite the book. Autumn in the northeast and murder in the air, you can't get any better.
It was a page turner, kept me entertained from the first page to the last.

Death in the Headlights was my favorite book yet the Mark McNease murder mysteries. The book was well written & full of suspense. I was not bored for one minute while reading this book. It as fast paced which is what in my estimation is a good sign of a good book. Kyle, Danny, & Linda are characters that you cannot help but like & relate to. Mr. McNease has outdone himself with this book. My Congratulations.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A+ to date for all three of the Kyle Callahan Mysteries 6. September 2014
Von Susan M. Reaves - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the third Kyle Callahan Mystery I have read and I loved them all. This review will serve for all three of the stories, so far, in this series by Mark McNease. The stories are stand alone but you will enjoy them more if you read them in order because the professional and personal lives of the protagonists unfold throughout the pages as time rolls by.

I enjoy a good mystery and I love stories with LGBT characters. It is also nice to have characters who are a little more "mature". I am middle aged/seniorish myself so it is refreshing to see protagonists who are a bit older, not in their physical prime but in their intellectual prime. Kyle and Danny are a great couple, in love and looking towards marriage, engaged in their respective careers and aware that they aren't spring chickens but are still contributing members of their world.

The mystery plots were great, not obvious, and kept me guessing (accept for what the author wanted me to know). I have been a long time murder mystery reader and all three of these novels measured up to anything else I have read by top drawer mystery writers. Mr. McNease has promised at least one more Kyle Callahan "Pride" novel. I hope there will be many more. I love the collaboration of Kyle with Detective Linda, a lesbian homicide detective now retired. Their chemistry is great.

Now, Mr. McNease, please get Kyle and Danny married soon! I want to see them secure in their future. Time's a wasting.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Engaging story 14. Juli 2014
Von Mike Packard - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Another well told story. I genuinely like the characters. The good thing this author does do in his book, is tell the reader enough about previous plots to reiterate facts that make the current story more full. Often other authors make a minimal reference to previous stories, assuming the reader will vividly remember things from previous books of months or even years ago. Thank you.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Another excellent murder mystery 19. November 2014

Another excellent murder mystery! This one had now become my favorite of the three! Fast page turner & exciting from beginning to end. I like that Detective Linda was finally given the spot light and credit for solving a murder, with Kyle's support. Also, there was a gentle and important human side of the the story - her relationship with her fiancé Kirstin, and her deceased father & Aunt. The location of the story was colorfully detailed to the point that I felt I was actually there. I enjoyed how the first two books were lightly mentioned in this book too. Mark, congratulations on yet another successful book. And thank you for this quote, "Time is not the enemy. Time takes no side. It only is, and what you do with it determines the fullness of your life." I would say you succeeded in this department too! Congrats!
