Kurzbeschreibung

“Nothing good ever happens at the butt-crack of dawn. No doubt, the headless corpse on the autopsy table in front of me would agree.”—Violet Parker

Real estate agent, Violet “Spooky” Parker stumbles upon a body-part theft ring at the local funeral parlor and suspects her caustic coworker has a hand in it—or maybe a foot. Can Violet discover what’s in the crates the crooks are sneaking out of the mortuary in the dark of night? Or will she end up in one of
them herself … in pieces?

5.0 von 5 Sternen Fun and Suspense in a Delightful Mix 13. März 2012
Von PaintTrail - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This book is total entertainment. I love Violet, Doc and all the Deadwood gang. I'm hooked on Violet's growing romance with Doc and all the other rich and quirky relationships in Violet's circle. I really miss them when I finish and it's so good I finished it too darn fast. The story flowed so well I found myself swinging from laugh out loud funny (the séance is hysterical) to delicious suspense in the blink of an eye as events moved through some really unique twists. This series just keeps getting better and this was my favorite book so far. I think Ann really nailed it in delivering more Deadwood fun and I'm already looking for book four!

1.0 von 5 Sternen Loved the first book, sadly didn't care for this one 19. Dezember 2012
Von Merrill - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I zipped through the first book of this series and gave it an awesome review. I read book #2 and could feel myself getting a little discouraged but said, its okay, book #3 will wrap all this up. Boy was I wrong. The main character Violet turned into someone I didn't like very much. (very juvenile and not in a good way) Violet was still funny, and I wanted to like her, but just couldn't. She lies through the whole series and when someone is doing something because they care about her, she acts like they are just giving her a hard time. When a cop is just doing his job questioning her, once again, he is just giving her a hard time. When her Aunt asks about her relationship with the new man in her life, the Aunt is giving her a hard time. Violet makes it a point to put stipulations on any information she gives to anyone at any time, and the reasons she can't answer a simple question leaves you baffled. When she finally tells the totally unbelievable things she witnessed at the end of the book, everyone sort of believes her, which I find amazing given her track record. I wouldn't believe a word she says. And to make her even more unlikable, shes annoyed that anyone would question what she saw. Little boy that cried wolf anyone?

*SPOILERS* Three books later,Violet is lying over and over again,so much so that at one point, she outright lies and crosses her fingers behind her back like a 4yr old child so its okay in her mind. A 30ish year old woman acting that way wasn't endearing.

Violet is in a relationship with a man (Doc)that her friend(Nat) has a crush on, but continuously lies and sneaks around behind Nat's back. To make it worse, this behavior occurs through all three books, and you are hoping that the author doesn't go with the predictable choice reference lying to Nat, (that is,the friend catching them together) and that is exactly what happens. Then, if you want to know how they deal with it,you will have to buy book #4(three should be enough). That felt cheap and more like a scheme to get me to buy another book. At this point I've lost all trust in the author to not keep stringing it along just for more book sales.

The story is incredibly weak on mystery. Half the time, I don't understand why Violet thinks anything sinister is going on by the transparent clues that are occurring in her mind. Good thing the author makes something happen at the end, because nothing worthwhile happens anywhere else, unless you get excited over Realty sales.

The ending is out of left field. Bad guy/monster/ghost is the culprit that vanishes in mid air. If that seems unbelievable...it is,even for paranormal lovers, and the way Violet reacts is just as unbelievable. She has just put Nat's life in danger (put others in danger as well),Nat is still missing, and Violet is more concerned about sucking face with Doc. Then Nat shows up to witness said face sucking and is upset over it, "Noooo!", and Violet just shrugs it off like she does everything else, "oh well, I tried to tell you." Nat's fault for not reading her mind.

Even more unbelievable is that Nat even cares at that point. Someone just tried to kill her, how do you trump that for shock value with kissing? I would hope Nat's not that mentally unstable, however, she does start stalking Doc,assisted by Violet,so maybe they both are insane. You would think a first reaction after being kidnapped with the kidnapper intending to murder you, would be, "I'm going home now to change my locks, put bars on my windows and make an appointment with a therapist."

All in all, this book has some funny moments and the author has a way of writing that makes the story easy to follow. If she works on the mystery, dishes out some beefy clues, makes the characters more believable and likable then book #4 could be good. Having said that, I probably wont be buying book #4 and wished I would have stopped at book #1 because, investing any more time on what "could be" after three books just isn't worth the gamble.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Wonderful Way to spend a Day or Two 13. März 2012
Von C. Gibbon - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Welcome back to the wacky and strange world of Violet Parker. I just spent the last two days immersed in this world because I did not want to put this book down. This installment in the Deadwood series had me chuckling out loud and biting my nails even more than I did in the other two. Ann Charles just keeps getting better and better and I can't wait for book four to see what happens next in Deadwood. Violet Parker is the person that I want to be when I grow up!

2.0 von 5 Sternen done with this series 31. Dezember 2012

Let me start off by saying that I don't hate the books, but I don't think I will be reading any more from the series, because I strongly dislike the main character. She is awful. She snoops just to snoop, she CONSTANTLY lies to everyone- sometimes it seems like she is just doing it to be childish(crossing her fingers behind her back is just idiotic to me). I didnt get why she felt the need to constantly interfere with Cooper's investigation, making everything worse, thinking she was the expert and the cops were just there to be her backup. She is a terrible friend, like not wanting to come clean about dating Doc because she still needed Natalie's help at the funeral home. Speaking of Doc, he seems like a moron for putting up with her always lying and holding back information after she promises she will stop being dishonest. Basically I cannot stand this woman and it is a shame because in the first book she was tolerable and my fondness for the other characters was enough to make me keep reading, but not anymore. I ended up just frustrated and perplexed by most of her actions and the incessant selfishness and lying to everyone that was going out of their way to help and support her. Not my idea of good character development.

5.0 von 5 Sternen the best of 3 12. März 2012

If you have never read any of the deadwood books do yourself a favor and buy all 3.In book 3 we revisit with Violet and her 2 children 10 year old twins Layne and Addy, her love interest Doc Nyce, a strange old man Willis(Old Man)Harvey who has appointed himself her personal body guard and he is a hoot and a half.Violet works for Calamity Jane realty where she has to contend with a co-worker Ray Underhill who is trying to get her fired and the interaction between them is really really funny. Some of Violets expressions just get me laughing so hard, she describes liking something as much as a bowel full of hissing cockroaches soaked in rats piss.Ann has a great way of injecting humor in her writing without losing the suspense. If like me you have read the last 2 she has topped herself this time. The end is a WHOAAAAAAA, WHAT! moment you will not want to miss.
