Kurzbeschreibung

22. Oktober 2009 BBC Audio
This is the complete "BBC Radio 4" series written and presented by Sir David Attenborough featuring all twenty episodes about some of the strangest plants and creatures from around the world. One of the nation's most popular presenters examines twenty marvels of the natural world from his extraordinary and pioneering experiences. What was Sir David's first pet? Which animal would he most like to be? What creature lays 'the biggest egg in the world'? How do you communicate with an ancient nomadic community in Fiji? And what did Sir David do when confronted by a ten-foot-long reptile? His enthusiasm is as infectious as ever, and conveys a unique fascination on topics as diverse as the Sloth, Monstrous Flowers, the Platypus, Giant Birds, Dragons, the Fire Salamander, Faking Fossils, the Coelacanth, the Dodo, Bird's-nest Soup and the Large Blue Butterfly. So listen to these stories to find out the real reason why animals sing, the story behind a 150-million-year-old feather and what it is about snakes that really unnerves Sir David.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Attenborough World on Audio CDs 12. November 2009
Von Marco Rossini - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
No need to explain what he does or how brilliantly he presents his programmes - we all know his amazing world. But the unique thing about this product is that this is an audio format only, so what kind of natural world we see is completely up to our imagination, which I like very much.

As well as being highly educational, the programme is very well presented and entertaining. The good thing about a CD is that you could listen to it at any time while you're doing something else, such as cooking or driving, and you can learn about the natural world and its creatures you never encountered before. If you fit into one of these categories; (1) an animal lover, (2) a nature fanatic, (3) a BBC Radio 4 listener or (4) an audio book lover, I gurantee you'll enjoy listening to these CDs. It would make a good X'mas present or for any other occasions.

Hope this helps!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Life Stories 26. Januar 2011

To reiterate that David Attenborough is a national treasure is a gross understatement and for generations of people who have grown up watching his documentaries and hearing his narration and radios shows, there is a certain immediate comfort derived from hearing him talk on this audio CD. If you have read his autobiography, or seen some of his documentaries, then the information here isn't new or ground breaking. But, it is wonderful to have such a variety of natural history anecdotes collected in one place to listen to and enjoy at your leisure. I listened to this on a long car journey and the time flew by as I was held spellbound by the tenacity and wonder of nature. There is great variety in the stories here, from Sloth's, salamanders and snakes to fossils and plant life and way more besides. The section about the blue butterfly were especially captivating and had me exclaiming at regular intervals as each new fact was revealed. If you enjoy natural history and also enjoy audio books then this is a required purchase and the integrity that Attenborough brings to any project is unsurpassed. A delightful and highly recommended collection.

5.0 von 5 Sternen simply amazing 21. September 2010

Our family has seen many of David Attenborough's natural history films, all of which are terrific. The audio only presentation of these cd's is particularly great for people of all ages, but it is fantastic for children in particular. Just listening to David Attenborough's explanation as to what animal he would be (a sloth!), elicts an enthusiastic discussion of what animal your child would like to be and why. We really can't thank David Attenborough enough for sharing his love and enthusiasm for the world of nature. Listen to this with your children - you will not regret it (and you will love it too).

I wanted a soothing voice to play as I went to sleep. Something that would be interesting, but not stimulating. Attenborogh's voice is just the ticket.

We LOVE Attenborough's DVDs so I wasn't sure how well my 7-year old son would take to the audio only. But his stories are engaging and charming and make anyone want to become a biologist.
