At the age of 15, Taylor Beauforte has only met her father twice in person. After all, he is the lead singer of a world-famous rock band, constantly on the cover of music magazines and giving interviews on MTV. He pays for Taylor to attend the Treadwell Academy, a prestigious boarding school in Massachusetts, and provides her mother with monthly checks to cover her basic needs, but has never made much of an effort to play an active part in Taylor’s life. Taylor's mom Dawn is the only family she has ever really known, and because of Dawn's hard-partying Hollywood lifestyle, studious Taylor is happiest on the other side of the country in Massachusetts with her nose buried in a book.
When Taylor 's mom unexpectedly dies the summer before Taylor starts her junior year, she receives a crash course in fame. She has no choice but to join her father and his new family on their summer concert tour before she has even had a chance to mourn the loss of her mother. Life as the daughter of a rock star seems like it would be enviable, but Taylor can't figure her dad out. He seems like a supportive authority figure (even if he's kind of a fashion tragedy) , but she is collecting a growing pile of evidence that he's a liar and a cheat. Her stepmother, Jill, can’t seem to decide if she wants to treat Taylor like a girlfriend or a nuisance. Having had no time to grieve and say goodbye to her childhood before being thrust into the limelight, Taylor is suddenly finding herself in situations she could have never imagined before this summer.
With no one else to turn to, Taylor falls head over heels in love with Jake, the teenage son of one of the band's touring groupies. Taylor has growing concerns about Jake's background and the suspicious relationship between his mom and her own father, but is desperate for something real in her life onto which she can build a future. When Jake offers Taylor an opportunity to join him on a whirlwind adventure and leave her problems with her father far behind, Taylor has to decide – should she carve out her own way in the world, or try to repair the relationship she has with her only living parent?
Over the course of the summer with the band, Taylor learns the depths of her own strength, the difficulty of overcoming loss, and that the definition of family means much more than shared bloodlines.

"I haven't read a book in 3 years. And I have never read a book in one day. I downloaded this book, and didn't put it down. I'm not a fast reader, but I sat here for 9 hours straight and read this book. I laughed, cried, cursed, and just plain out wanted to take her place! Truly phenomenal!!!! Also, I am 15 as well."

"It's been a good while since I picked up a book but this book was so hard to put down. It's an easy read but keeps the mind wondering what will happen next. Great book for any girl who enjoys a good love story but also likes the idea of a summer romance."

5.0 von 5 Sternen what a surprise! 25. Juni 2013

I sort of expected to read another stereotypical YA book (which would've totally be fine for me to relax my brain), but this one really surprised me.
What a great story about rock stars, fandom and the life of kids that have more money they could ever spend :-)
And I loved the heroine: she's down to earth and heartwarmingly grown-up for a 15year-old whose life just turned upside down.
The writing was pretty well and the story just kept flowing and flowing - totally got me hooked.

Great! I'd love to read more of Caitlyn Duffy!

I am obviously not the author's target audience (36 year old mom) but I really really enjoyed this book. The writing was excellent, the story line hooked me in instantly and I devoured it, and was left wanting more. Great book.

This book sucked me in from the beginning. The way that Taylor is practically an adult at 15 and has had to be for a very long time, I really felt for her when her mother died even though she wasn't exactly a paragon of virtue. Taylor really stood out to me because even though she felt like she was floundering and there was nobody she could count on she did her best to stay true to herself. It was written in such a way to make it seem believable and even though this book was filled with flawed characters I felt that there was something in each of them good and redeeming in each of them. I liked that at the end Taylor had to learn to forgive and let herself move forward. She had to learn to be happy with herself and she gained a family in the process.

I downloaded this book off of the Top Free 100 list, because it looked like something I could read in the course of a plane ride and I wasn't looking for anything too serious. AND I LOVE FREE BOOKS! I can't stop myself...
I thoroughly enjoyed the character development and the storyline and found myself really invested in what happened by the end of the book. It was an easy read. Personally, I do agree that some of the content is a little bit older than the target audience - as a 24-year-old, I don't mind reading about drinking/partying, drug use, swear words, virginity and sex, etc, but I don't think I would have felt as comfortable with some of the things that Taylor was doing if I had read this book when I was 15. She acts older, and I feel that if the author had made her 17 instead of 15 it would have been a little bit more believable. 3 stars for the entertainment :)

Not that I thought the book would be bad or anything but it's a new author for me (which I love) and I usually read "grittier" books or fantasy/sci-fi. This book was amazingly real and surreal at the same time. The main character Taylor was well developed and I really felt for her. I just love the way the author told the story and look forward to reading more of her work.

3.0 von 5 Sternen solid, entertaining read 4. Juni 2012

As an author myself, I was really curious as to how "adult" young adult fiction could be these days. The answer - a lot! Though the book is aimed at teens, it deals with the loss of a parent, implied sex and drug use, family breakup and more. But it's also a breezy, entertaining read, the type of book you could read over an afternoon. Taylor Beauforte is a 15 year old forced to grow up way too fast after the death of her party girl mother. And she has to do so while on the road with her rock star dad, someone she barely knows. A teenager on the road with a rock band is a terrible place for a kid, and Taylor falls into all sorts of temptations, despite her nerdy nature. She tells her story in The Rock Star's Daughter, a cautionary look at empty fame can be. With its adult themes, you forget it's a YA novel. It's also well-written and offers a lot of insights about the importance of friend and family versus riches and fame.
