4.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent examples to demonstrate the power of d3.js 5. Januar 2014
Von Masaaki Takamiya - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
This was the first book I read on d3.js. I have a background on programming mostly in Java and basic knowledge on web, but have not written Javascript codes much. This book contains a number of useful code examples that show how easily you can write eye-catching interactive web page with d3.js. Those examples are not too simple like "Hello World"-type code, but can be applied to your real-world applications. For beginners like myself, I would like to recommended to watch the series of d3.js video on YouTube by d3Vienno first.

I did not give five stars to this book because the code listings had a few errors. When I learn new computer technologies, I usually type in examples from keyboard, but this book was not written for my learning style. The author provides all codes in Github and the errors that I found in the book were fixed in the sample codes on Github. If you download sample codes from Github and read text with the downloaded code, you will not have problems.

2.0 von 5 Sternen does not compare to other books 31. Januar 2014

the book is ok to get some new things, but compared to other books e.g. Interactive Data Visualization for the Web by Scott Murray or Data Visualization with D3.js Cookbook by Nick Qi Zhu the content is weak and looks more like a me too, rushed approach.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Review for Data Visualization with d3.js -- great book! 21. Januar 2014
Von Philip Arad - Veröffentlicht auf
Nowadays creating and publishing visualizations on the Web has become one of the fundamental needs for a lot of projects.
Once the web has become a platform for developing complex applications, the need for good visualization libraries has increased.

D3.js is a JavaScript library for manipulating documents based on data.D3 helps you bring data to life using HTML, SVG and CSS.
It combines visualization components and a data-driven approach to DOM manipulation.

Here enter the needs for good profound books for D3.js .

'Data Visualization with d3.js' from 'Packt Publishing' is one of the best books on D3.js that was published recently.
It starts from the fundamental concepts and methods of D3, going through large number of examples, to the more complex issues
of developing interactive data visualization for your project.

You will find useful examples for bar charts, scatter plots, pie charts, animating your visualization with transitions, histogram layouts,
hierarchical layouts and interactions with geo data and maps.

The first two chapters deal with the core of D3 (set up of the environment, selections, manipulating SVG and colors).
The next chapters cover data binding, scales, axes, geo data and animations.
In the last third of the book you will find more advanced topics like layouts and resources for great works done with D3 around the Web.

If you only start your way into data visualization, or you have already some experience with it, you will find this book most useful.
