Kurzbeschreibung

This second edition of Cut by Cut: Editing Your Film or Video covers the current landscape of postproduction process, taking the reader step by step through the editor’s journey from receiving dailies to delivering on film, tape, file, or disk for YouTube, cinema, Blu-ray, or TV. The book guides the filmmaker through the operation of digital editing systems, sound and music editing and the mix, and tape, tapeless, and film workflows. The middle section lasers in on how to edit the footage: Make cuts, video effects, overlaps, and cheat shots as well as how to approach different genres such as comedy, documentary, drama, and music videos. The final section takes on music and sound editing and the mix, and wraps up by describing finishing processes including online, negative cutting, and DI processes.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good but..... 24. April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
This is good book. It is very informative. You learn a lot.....about postprodiction. And that is my only "negative" point. I just want to warn people who are looking for information about the actual cutting! This is not the book for you. It describes the preproduction process of a film, series etc. It focusses a lot on preparation and documents, job descriptions, vocabulary etc.

I was looking for the actual cutting. When to cut, why to cut, how long should scenes be, flow, use of the different tracks and especially examples which pictures because without it is a lot harder to get it. And if thats want you want choose another book. So "Cut by Cut" is a a little missleading as a title. It should have a name witch "preproduction" in it. Nevertheless you can still learn a lot.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Great book, one for the shelf 29. Mai 2012
Von Dave Watson, Editor, Movies Matter - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Gale Chandler's "Cut by Cut" the 2nd Edition is a great, technical book on literally everything having to do with video and film editing. The term "technical" may put some readers off but I found this aspect of the book eye-opening. Chandler leads you through all the terms and schedules used in the film industry, and also includes how editing underscores and enhances filmmaking. This book is a worthwhile read; the text is interspersed with bits of philosophy from editors and mixers that have won awards and worked in the film industry.

This will be the consummate reference book for many years. That is saying something for a profession and industry that seem to change at an accelerating pace. This is a long book, but would be useful to anyone who wants or needs an in depth understanding of film editing.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Everything You Need To Know About Editing 31. Mai 2012
Von Tom Farr - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Great movies require the creative talents of a variety of different people. From screenwriters, to actors, to cinematographers, to directors, there's a lot that goes into creating a great film. But one person really brings all of it together to create a brilliant piece of visual storytelling: the editor. Even if you're not making feature films, but short videos, how you edit your video will determine how the video is received and what it will ultimately look like to a viewer. I've shot and edited a few short videos myself, and the editing process was always difficult because I didn't know exactly what to do to make the video look great.

Film editor Gael Chandler has written a thoroughly helpful book on the editing process called CUT BY CUT: EDITING YOUR FILM OR VIDEO. Chandler walks readers through the technical side of editing a film or video, explaining relevant terms that may be unfamiliar along the way. The book serves as an inside look into the making of a feature film as Chandler describes the process by which an editor receives footage and organizes that footage, then begins making decisions about how to make well-placed edits. There's information on editing systems, visual effects, and one of my favorite areas of filmmaking, sound design.

CUT BY CUT is a thorough guide that will help anyone interested in filmmaking to produce better films. It gives great insights into the filmmaking process and champions the editor specifically.

I received this book for free for review from Michael Wiese Productions, and the opinions contained in this review are completely my own

Great book on film editing. She really lays out step by step on how to edit a film from the start to end. I've been editing for a year now, but this book has helped giving me a better idea on how to setup my workflow.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Good course on professional editing 4. Januar 2014
Von David C. Veeneman - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This book covers a lot more than just the mechanics and aesthetics of editing. It's a very good overview of setting up an edit workflow in a professional environment, with a tilt toward film editing. But even indie videographers will benefit from the editing and finishing sections of the book. I particularly like the budget forms for editing major projects--makes this tedious job easier.
