3.0 von 5 Sternen IT WAS OKAY...I EXPECTED A LITTLE MORE 28. Juli 2000
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK I READ BY MARY HIGGINS CLARK. THE TITLE AND THE COVER REALLY CAUGHT MY EYE. IT HAD PLENTY OF SUSPENSE AND REALLY ENTERED THE WORLD OF PYCHOPATHS. IT WAS A LITTLE UNREALISTIC ALSO. I FIND IT VERY TO BELIEVE THAT A WOMAN WOULD ALLOW HER HUSBAND TO COMPLETELY ISOLATE FROM THE OUTSIDE WORLD, RICH OR NOT. I HAVEN'T GIVEN UP ON MS. CLARK. I WILL TRY ANOTHER BOOK. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, SHE AN EXCELLENT AUTHOR.

This was the first book I read by Mary Higging Clark and definately not the last. I have been searching for a good mystery, suspense, writer that could actually capture my attention and keep it. As soon as I started the book I could not put it down and actually read the bood in 2 days. This will definately not be the last book I read by her.

5.0 von 5 Sternen An excellent novel of suspense 19. Januar 1999
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
After finishing the incredibly stale LET ME CALL YOU SWEETHEART, I was about ready to give up on Mary Higgins Clark. If you're someone who, like me, was beginning to wonder what all the Clark hoopla was about, run out quick and get a copy of A CRY IN THE NIGHT, which can be described as a sort of modern cross between PSYCHO and REBECCA. This is a very well-done book, and it succeeds on many levels.

Jenny MacPartland is a divorced mother of two who is swept off her feet by Erich Krueger, a kind, handsome artist who marries her and takes her back to his sprawling farm in Minnesota. Not long after she arrives, she begins to sense tension in the air. Erich begins to behave strangely. Her ex-husband, Kevin, comes down to visit her, stirring up trouble. The whole place is overshadowed by the strange presence of Caroline, Erich's long-dead mother, to whom Jenny bears a striking resemblance. Soon Jenny begins to have dizzy spells and wonders if she is sleepwalking during the night. What began as a dream for both the protagonist and the reader has transformed into a horrific nightmare.

Clark handles this transformation with considerable deftness, demonstrating her masterful control of pace and characterization. The plot is especially convoluted and intricate; in fact, there are as many surprising twists as there are pages. Unlike LET ME CALL YOU SWEETHEART and WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN?, in which the terror kicks in only in the last few chapters or so, A CRY IN THE NIGHT turns on the suspense less than halfway through the novel and never lets up the pressure. This is an unusually chilling book, but aside from all the suspenseful pleasures of the story, it is also a very sad and emotionally involving drama.... Lesen Sie weiter... ›

4.0 von 5 Sternen almost flawless 13. Juli 2000
Format:Taschenbuch
this book was great. i loved how creepy jenny's husband acted about his mother. the most twisted(but deliciously satisfying) part is when erich won't be intimate with jenny unless she is wearing his mother's nightgown. however some of the plot was a little out there. i mean who is really THAT messed up but even more so, who wouldn't have been able to notice it sooner? it is a refreshing change from her other books. if you've read them, you know what i mean. (the murderer comes home, cleans up his mess and unwinds with a glass of vodka in his study. the victim is always a single, rich woman living in a new york skyline apartment. why couldn't the murderer be a woman for once?) anyway, about THIS book, it wasn't that, so to me, that made it better.

This was the first Mary Higgins Clark book I read, and it made me a true addict. This book is a suspenseful, psychological thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. If you are looking for a page-turner that you will want to read again and again, this is a great buy.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Intriguing Thriller... 10. Juni 2000
Von Mrs. Fitz
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
The first half of this book when Erich and Jenny marry and relocate to his farm is terrific. Five star reading. From there it gets a bit draggy and I felt like giving her a dope slap and saying "Honey, get a SPINE will ya?" As she mopes, moans and worries about her hubbies mood swings and strange behavior. Of course, she never bothers to bring it up and talk to him about it. That was annoying.

BUT I didn't guess who and why at the end, always the sign of a good thriller. Well worth a read, if you like thrillers.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Psychological Thriller 10. April 2000
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
I love Mary Higgins Clark's books. Unfortunately, I have read so many of her mysteries that lately I can accurately guess the ending, which is annoying. However, with this book, I never really even understood what was going on until the last few pages. When comprehension finally dawned, I was chilled to the bone at how the "bad guy" thought. It was quite spooky and I loved it.

I am a 12 year old and my name is Jocelyn. I read this book for a 7th grade book report and I loved it. I usually don't like mystery or suspense books but now I really like them. I just went to the library and I checked out Iced, by her daughter and Let Me Call You Sweetheart by Mrs. Higgins Clark. I really enjoyed this book.
