Finalist for the 2014 Prometheus Award.

Six months have passed since the release of Nexus 5.  The world is a different, more dangerous place.
In the United States, the terrorists – or freedom fighters – of the Post-Human Liberation Front use Nexus to turn men and women into human time bombs aimed at the President and his allies. In Washington DC, a government scientist, secretly addicted to Nexus, uncovers more than he wants to know about the forces behind the assassinations, and finds himself in a maze with no way out.

In Thailand, Samantha Cataranes has found peace and contentment with a group of children born with Nexus in their brains. But when forces threaten to tear her new family apart, Sam will stop at absolutely nothing to protect the ones she holds dear.
In Vietnam, Kade and Feng are on the run from bounty hunters seeking the price on Kade’s head, from the CIA, and from forces that want to use the back door Kade has built into Nexus 5.  Kade knows he must stop the terrorists misusing Nexus before they ignite a global war between human and posthuman. But to do so, he’ll need to stay alive and ahead of his pursuers.
And in Shanghai, a posthuman child named Ling Shu will go to dangerous and explosive lengths to free her uploaded mother from the grip of Chinese authorities.
The first blows in the war between human and posthuman have been struck.  The world will never be the same.

“Potent like Naam’s vividly imagined nano-drug Nexus, Crux is a heady cocktail of ideas and page-turning prose. It left my brain buzzing for days afterwards.”
Hannu Rajaniemi, author of The Quantum Thief and The Fractal Prince

“A blisteringly paced technothriller that dives deeper and even better into the chunky questions raised by Nexus. This is a fabulous book, and it ends in a way that promises at least one more. Count me in.”
- Cory Doctorow, author of Little Brother

"Nexus and Crux are a devastating probe into the political consequences of transhumanism; a sharp, chilling look at our likely future."
– Charles Stross, author of Halting State and Singularity Sky

“Smart, thoughtful, and hard to drop, this richly nuanced sequel outshines its predecessor with a wide cast of characters and some complicated, uneasy questions about power, responsibility, and the future of humanity.”
Publishers Weekly

“Highly recommended for preparation of the future revolution.”
– Harper Reed, former CTO of Obama for America

“A brilliant book, full of mind-blowing tech drawn in highly believable fashion. Naam’s action sequences carry a brutal intensity, and every time you think he’ll finally let you breathe the stakes rise even higher.”

5.0 von 5 Sternen A look into a possible future 4. Januar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I don't want to spoil the story to readers so I'll keep this general.

I am hihghly impressed by both Nexus and Crux. Coming from a programming background (even though I gave up on it because I was not exactly great) I researched the author after being a few chapter into Nexus. The whole setting gave off the impression that the author had clearly done a lot of research or came from a programming or biology background himself. I thought that the procedures and problems described in both books are plausible and made sense. The conspiracy aspect is way too close to reality for my taste when I think of the latest scandals concerning many countrie's intelligence agencies...but it fit in nicely with the plot.

Apart from the plausible (to me) scenario the writing style is both gripping and fast paced. The characters are neither black and white nor do they stagnate in their development.

Last but not least I want to say that I loved how religion, specifically buddhism, was woven into the plot. I am not a buddist myself but in my opinion this was well done and added to the character development.

Kudos to you, Mr. Naam! I liked your ideas (and writing style) of this possible future so much I am considering buying your non-fictional books as well and/or book about the topics of nanotech and augmentation. The Nexus story gave me a lot to think and daydream about. Thank you.

5.0 von 5 Sternen well-made follow-up 10. November 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I really enjoyed Nexus and it was clear that the novel left room for a continuation of events. Ramez Naam didn't disappoint us and Crux is a worthy follow-up to Nexus, again presenting us with complex characters and lots of shades of grey. The only bit of negative criticism might be a tendency to rake some of the characters through the coals to such an extreme that my willing suspension of the disbelief did begin to falter a bit. Basically though, I couldn't put the book down until I'd finished. I'm certainly curious as to what comes next ... the last paragraphs foreshadow interesting times ahead!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Nicht schlecht für einen 2. Teil 30. Juni 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf

Juli 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
This is an excellent book! A real page turner full of a convincing recognition of some of the possibilities of the not so distant future. Written by someone who obviously knows what he's talking about and in such a way that I could follow the technologies even though I have no idea about any of them! This and Nexus I would recommend to anyone. My only question is will there be a book 3 ?
