A WONDERFUL READ 16. Januar 2014
Von Anne - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
Cruisers AA is essential reading for anyone not only setting sail on the high seas,
but also for those with a sense of adventure.
There is a wealth of information on everything from boat equipment, maintenance,
navigation, interspersed with house keeping and many short stories about their
fascinating life at sea.
There are photos throughout the book which make the reader feel they are
sharing in the journeys.
Jackie and Noel, having spent 9 years on board have a broad understanding of
what is required, mentally as well as physically for life on board.
Their ability to improvise and keep a sense of humour have made their travels
a huge success.
This book is a joy to read for landlubbers as well as sailers.

A fun informative book on cruising the world on a sailing yacht 12. März 2014
Von Linda Anderson - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
Cruisers' AA is a juicy book full of handy hints, little first hand stories and photos on almost every page. You can pick it up anywhere in the book and learn something new, even if you are an experienced cruiser. For newbys it is full of first hand practical information by extremely experienced sailors Jackie and Noel. Jackie writes with humour but maintains a practical and economical view. For those who think you need a vast fortune to go cruising for years, Cruisers' AA dispels that myth. I particularly like the elegant dress from 2 knotted sarongs!

A most enjoyable course on sailing and cruising. 28. Juni 2015
Von Glen Barrera - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
Even though it’s been a few years since I’ve sailed Lake Michigan (out of Chicago), my experience not unlike a pea to a rather large watermelon when compared to Jackie and Noel Parry’s extensive ocean voyaging, I found this book a refreshing treat. Whether sailing a sixteen foot pocket-cruiser or a sixty foot yacht, there is enough information in this book to grab attention. The sections on fire safety, anchoring, onboard equipment, storage, navigation, life lines, vests…and even cleaning (I’ll never look at coffee filters as just-for-breakfast anymore) were well worth the read. And what tied it all together, for me, were the “Short Stories” interspaced throughout, all based on the Parry’s’ personal experience. This is a well-written book, more so a reference guide, I would have placed on our boat’s bookshelf, next to Chapman. Good reading for those sailing, or have sailed, or who have ever dreamed of trimming a fluttering main…and the freedom of the water.

Format: Taschenbuch
Jackie and Noel share with the reader their many years of successful cruising with loads of practical tips and wise advice on all aspects of cruising life. This myriad of information is presented in a logical way and is interspersed with contextual photos and anecdotes that makes it all interesting. These stories also gives the uninitiated a glimpse into the cruising lifestyle and the freedom that it brings. As the current owner of Mariah 11 I found it especially interesting seeing the photos and stories Of Mariah 11 in exotic places, even high and dry riding a railway boat lift in Canada. This book would be of great assistance to people planning or starting a cruising life. There would not be anyone who would not learn something valuable from this book.
