Cobbler stick to your last!
am 23. Juli 2005
That's what Reichs should have done in her latest addition to the Tempe-Brennan-series, because "Cross Bones" would surely have been better then! There have always better and worse books in this series, but this one really hits the bottom:
To me "Cross Bones" to me felt like a meagre attempt to emulate Dan Brown's "Da Vinci Code" but straying from her usual turf has brought Tempe into murky waters, her creator in my opinion didn't handle well. Reichs claims that she has spent one year researching, but to me it didn't really feel like it. The whole story seemed farfetched to me and is populated by too many characters which rather convolute the plot than add tension to it and therefore the story line was boringly hard to follow. Tempe and Ryan acting like hormone-infused teenagers didn't really do the trick for me either.
Interesting approach that lacks in realization big time! Stick to your last Mrs. Reichs (hence let Tempe stay in Montreal) and please do make No. 9 in the Tempe-Brennan-Series a good read again!
Result: I am a big-time fan of Kathy Reich's books, so please cut me some slack when asking you to spare yourselves from a major disappointment!
