Kurzbeschreibung

Life is like high school.
For Grey Talbot teaching high school history was a choice. When a gorgeous blond punk of a kid walks into his class with attitude to spare, Grey fears his choice might just be his undoing.

High school kids kept getting younger and Paul Gaines stayed the same. Moving from one city narcotics unit to the next, his youthful looks and slender body made him a perfect undercover cop for the job.

Meeting the professor wasn't part of the deal. The man was smart sexy and off limits even if he was younger than Paul.

For Grey getting involved with one of his students, even if that student wore a badge meant playing with fire. Fire that could burn them both.

The book was..at first cute but at the end it was just confusing. I really don't understand the case and who is the brother of which character, who is dead and who is not.. I am disappointed. Sorry but I won't recommend it.

Sorry, but I didn't like it at all. And no, it was not the student-teacher-relationship that disturbed me (they both knew the facts, before beginning a relationship). The characters weren't really likable, the storyline (and the case as it is) was confusing and the developing romance was ... well, not developing at all.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Another engaging story from this author 19. April 2014
Von Anna Oxford - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I thoroughly enjoyed this 21 Jump Street-style undercover cop story with a twist from Mercy Celeste; the two male leads were complex characters and their relationship was sexy, emotional and engaging. The plot had plenty of twists and turns, although I did feel that the ending was rather rushed. The author had cleverly set us up for the big denouement of the police investigation and subsequent resolution of the love story, but then sped through it in a matter of a few pages.

There were a few minor technical errors that should have been picked up by more careful editing, but I didn't find that they spoiled my enjoyment of the story (and I can be pretty fussy about misuse of apostrophes - I've read an awful lot worse than this, though!).

If you have never read anything by the author before, this probably isn't her very best work and I would recommend "Let it Go" (superb) and "Six Ways From Sunday" (the beginning of her Southern Scrimmage series) as a better place to start although I would still suggest you make your way back to "Crazy from the Heat" eventually. If you are a Mercy Celeste fan already, then this is definitely worth a read. A "good" rather than "excellent" book by her, even with a few flaws, is always going to be a 4* read and head and shoulders above most other books in this genre.

4.0 von 5 Sternen All is not as it seems....and it works, and works well 3. Mai 2014
Von Susan65 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I was a little nervous when I started this book because I have a son in high school and was really afraid of where the teacher/student affair was going. But imagine my relief, and surprise, when Paul’s undercover persona is almost instantly blown and Grey realizes that the hot kid in his class is actually not a kid at all. That worked for me…big time.

I loved the “Spicoli” references throughout the story as Paul really did look the part of Sean Penn in Fast Times from Ridgemont High. The fact that the “student” was actually older than the teacher was different, but I find that I like different and that’s why I am drawn to Mercy Celeste’s books. I love her style, I love her willingness to walk on the wild side, and I love that she is able to throw real world, real life references into her stories and they fit.

So in this Crazy book, we have an undercover Narc posing as a student. The fact that Paul, who at 30 years old could look 17 was a little much, but I could work with it. I loved the whole taboo that was making Grey squirm. He knew Paul was a grown man, a man actually older than himself, but it still bothered him that Paul was technically his student. The ramifications, no matter the circumstances, would be brutal to his career.

Paul and Grey are two very naughty boys inside the bedroom, and out. The tattoo’s, the surprise piercings, the hot sex, and the feels between them were very plausible. I found myself rooting for them because they both deserved a little happiness.

Mixed in with all the naughty school boy – naughty teacher taboo is the reason Paul is at the school in the first place. There is a drug problem and the supplier just may be a teacher. Let the fun begin. Is it Grey? Is it the bitchy-slutty teacher Sarah? Is it a set-up? What the heck is going on anyway? We get that at the end, and even though I was rooting big time for who I thought it was and wanting them to suffer…I was wrong.

I did not see that ending coming…at all!!! And I love when that happens. Just when all the pieces start falling into place, when all the odds are stacked and there is no way I could be wrong…I was still wrong. That’s so great!

There is nothing I can say to not give it away; you have to read it yourself or it takes away the surprise and overall enjoyment of the story. Needless to say, I love Ms. Celeste’s books, I love the trouble her boys are always getting into, and I love reading a little bit of taboo and controversial story lines from time to time. Yes, I saw the editing issues and yes, the cover is not very attractive, but all in all, it did nothing to ruin my enjoyment of this book and I easily let it go.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Five stars from me 13. Mai 2014

I enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot. Set in Mobile, AL, which was my home for 70 years, I fell right into the story and the ambiance. I always enjoy a tale where the characters have a past, and where that past comes back to haunt them in the present. The showdown near the end had me guessing, but the final scene was absolutely perfect. I felt it deserved the five stars I gave it.

3.75 of 5 stars~ Review by Caroline

This is not my favourite book of hers by a long way but it still has her character trademarks stamped all over it. Two hot men that life seems determined to make things difficult for. Lots of angst. A lot of personal baggage that they are constantly tripping over and some hot sexy action.

Grey Talbot is a history teacher that is not the prude he comes across as. He is a product of the foster care system and one of the few that made it out intact and with good prospects. His teenage years hold a few secrets that he wants kept hidden but always seem to catch him up.

Paul Gaines is a 30 year old cop with the face of a teenager. His young looks tend to define his career and his current assignment is playing a 17 year old student at High School, looking to make a drug bust. His career so far has been fast paced and filled with controversy so this is one assignment he plans to keep his head down for.

When he walks into his first history class all bets are off as he comes face to face with the sexy teacher. His cocky attitude has the same affect on Grey who is left terrified by his reactions to the student.

Though an incident away from school reveals to Grey the true identity of Paul he still feels uncomfortable having any contact with him outside the remit of his lessons. This proves to be near impossible as both men find it impossible to stay away from each other.

This book could have done with a little more editing but the story remained interesting so it became easy to ignore. In true Mercy style nothing in her boys lives is ever easy and towards the end there were twists galore. It wrapped up a little too quick IMO but the outcome was all good so I won’t complain too much. If you are a Mercy fan, I think you will like this one.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Not my favorite from Mercy Celeste 15. Juli 2014

I would give this book 2 stars, and I really wanted to like this book. I’m a huge fan of Mercy Celeste. I loved Behind Iron Lace and have enjoyed the Southern Scrimmage series. This one just didn't resonate with me.

BASIC SUMMARY: High school teacher attracted to student, who turns out to be an undercover narcotics officer.

PROS: As always, Mercy Celeste is an excellent writer and knows how to draw you into the story.

CONS: A few issues:
• I didn't feel like I got to know the characters, and that is such a key element for me in the book. I felt like this book did not really show me who the characters were in a way that the author’s other books have.
• I cringed every few pages waiting for the characters to get caught. And it was really annoying. They kept saying “This is too risky, we’re going to get caught” and would proceed to make out in public as though the entire previous conversation had not taken place. I don’t know if this was supposed to illustrate an attraction so immense that the characters forgot themselves, but with everything they had at stake in seemed really stupid to do this. And then do it again. And again.

Overall, I don’t think this was a bad read, just not one for me.
