Kurzbeschreibung

Marc was dangerous to her in the way that only a strong, sexy male could be to a woman. Even knowing that, she'd agreed to marry him.

Hope blossomed in Hira's heart. Perhaps she'd married a man with whom it might just be worth building a life. Her mother had worried that he was scarred, but the lines on his face did nothing to lessen his raw masculine appeal. If anything, they gave him an even more dangerous male air, enticing the feminine core of her to thoughts that shocked her.

What did a man's face matter anyway? She had no use for handsome men.

But for a man with a heart?

For such a man…she might risk everything.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Another unusual romance by Nalini Singh 17. April 2009
Format:Taschenbuch
Hira has grown up in the (fictional) desert state of Zulheil, but unfortunately for her, the liberation that women have experienced in recent years hasn't found a place in her family. As a result, she has always been suppressed, has very little education and in the end, is married off to a total stranger as part of a business arrangement her father has with this American, Marc Bordeaux. Naturally, she doesn't enter their marriage happily. Marc, a successful entrepreneur who has worked his way up from poverty and a childhood filled with abuse, took one look at Hira and felt a deep connection. For him, it was love at first sight, so he was willing to marry Hira although her father didn't allow him to meet and woo her first. But the angry and cold woman he encounters after their marriage is not what he expected. Both will have to get to know each other and help heal their painful wounds if they want to find happiness.
This book is another typical Nalini Singh romance in which people with a lot of baggage have to work on their problems to find love and happiness. I enjoyed it a lot and would recommend it as an unusual romance novel with depth. It is (very loosely) connected to Desert Warrior, which also takes place in Zulheil and is about the ruler of that country and the woman he loves.

I love Nalini singhs Psy Series so I thought why not try something else.

I have to admit that I am no fan of pure love stories and this is one of the example what I don't like about it.

The characters see each other, are attracted to each other and get married, somehow as a commercial deal. She thinks he likes her only because she is beautiful and he thinks she does not like him because he has scars. And then they reject each other fight with their own demons until the reader thinks: that's it they get along well let's see if something happens to the story.... and nothing they have doubts again reject each other again and so on until the end of the book where one tends to think probably it is going to go on like this even if they say I love you.

The story is well written, fun and the characters as nice and that's it.

I understand if someone likes this kind of romantic litterature if this is the case Enjoy the read MBTM

This is my second favourite Nalini Singh contemporary romance (my favourite is Desert Warrior). It's a wonderful story of two people with very different backgrounds falling in love with each other and making their marriage work.

3.0 von 5 Sternen an early effort from a fabulous author 14. Juni 2008
Von D. K. Stokes - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Not long after I read the amazing Slave to Sensation, I had the opportunity to get a handful of Nalini Singh's backlist, signed, in a charity auction, so I jumped at it. This is the first of those books I've read.

On the heels of rejection by a man she thought she'd loved, Hira Dazirah finds herself married to an American she's never actually met, Marc Bordeaux.

The fictional Arabic country of Zulheil is fairly progressive, but not so Hira's family. She's wanted to go to school, use her brain, be independent, but her father has forbidden it. When she believes herself in love with one of the few young men she's come in contact with, she suggests they elope. He refuses--beautiful though Hira is, he wants her father's approval, and his money--more.

Then she sees Marc, and feels a spark for him, and when her father informs her Marc has asked for her hand in marriage, she believes he feels the same way, and that this is her chance to be both free and loved.

Marc is scarred, and believes no woman would be interested in him because of it. Hira is very beautiful, but she believes no man would be interested in anything other than her beauty.

Which is a good and poignant conflict, except that it made me want to whack them both upside the head, then lock them in a closet until they actually talked to each other.

Marc thinks Hira wants beautiful clothes and to spend her days shopping, so he provides her with that, then uses the fact that she accepts as proof that that's all she wants. Hira thinks Marc wants a beautiful trophy, so she spends her time making herself beautiful and uses the fact that he appreciates her beauty as proof that that's all he wants.

And then the sex. Yes, it's steamy, but it's almost painful to read, because they can't resist each other, but they're both so afraid of rejection that they hold back emotionally, and the encounters leave them physically satisfied but emotionally miserable.

I know that in real life, communication is a huge problem in relationships. But it drives me nuts, especially in books, but in real life, too. Inside, I'm screaming, "just talk to each other already!"

I was so distracted by my frustration with this couple that I just couldn't appreciate the story.

I do have high hopes for the other older Nalini Singh books in my TBR pile.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Craving beauty and loving the beast 5. August 2005

Format:Taschenbuch
This is the first book written by Nalini Singh that I read. However it won't be the last one. This story was really captivating.
I loved the balance between romance and sex during the whole story. I started reading the book at night and it was so hard to give up when I fallen sleep at 2am in the morning. Definitely a page turns over. I would recommend to anyone who loves a strong romance.
In this story: Beautiful Hira had many deceptions from the way men desire her. They only wanted her as a trophy to be hold for her beauty. When she was arranged married to an American (Marc) with scars in and outside his body. She promised herself that she will never love him; that she will be a beautiful woman for him and nothing else. Will Marc be able to lose his past and find the true love with Hira? Would she be able to love and forgive him?
The story touches many other life issues that make the story outstanding.
Definitely a great reading

4.0 von 5 Sternen Nalini Singh is an autobuy author for me.... 2. August 2007
Von Deborah Wiley - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Hira Dazirah is tired of being just another pretty face. Unfortunately, her new husband, Marc Bordeaux doesn't seem to see beyond the surface appearance. Hira finds herself away from her homeland of Zulheil living in the bayous of Louisiana. Marc is haunted by his own personal tragedies and the physical scars that mar his body and face. Will Claire be able to see the true heart of this Beast? And will Marc be able to see Claire as more than just a Beauty?

CRAVING BEAUTY is a modern day Beauty and the Beast tale with an international twist. Marc is surprised by the provincial attitude of Hira's father towards women as the fictional Zulheil is very modern in its approach to women's rights. However, his own high casual handedness provides an interesting and thought provoking contrast. Hira craves respect and intellectual stimulation but Marc struggles with seeing anything other than her stunning physical beauty. Hira's determination to be accepted and respected regardless of her appearance is one that will resonate with women readers.

CRAVING BEAUTY is further proof of the sheer talent of Nalini Singh. Regardless of the locale or the type of plot, Nalini Singh writes a fantastic story! Stories of arranged marriages are definitely not a theme that I gravitate towards in my reading, but time after time, Nalini Singh demonstrates that if her name is on the cover of the book, it's an instant buy for me!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Review by The Book Club 12. Oktober 2013
Von Rubina - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

What I liked......
The characters were very distinct. Each had their own fears and insecurities. Both the characters were equal in terms of their insecurities and passion. I could relate to Hira very well, especially, when she was fighting for her rights as a woman. When she thought Marc was being patronizing, she stood up to him. When she thought that he was having a secret, she fought to know it and when she felt that Mac was being aloof she fought for her love. All in all, she was a complete woman who could overcome her insecurities, adjust to a new land and fight for her love.

Marc, with all his scars and insecurities, was a lovable character when he was not being a pain in the neck. (Ahem!!) But what I loved about him was when he opened an account for his mother in law, understanding that she had to beg her husband for money. (That made me fall in love with Marc!!)

What I didn't like......
Marc to some extend seemed pig headed and he seemed to solve all his anger, disagreement and sorrow by `romping' on the bed. That characteristic of Marc makes him a bit shallow for me. The second thing which I found a bit off putting was Hira always acting without any flaws and being too good to be true. She went on calling March `Husband' and the way she spoke English, though suited with her character, was a bit off-putting.

Rating: ****
On the whole I loved the story. The love and passion between them was palpable. I would give this story 4 out of 5 stars. The one star I am taking away for Marc's pigheadedness.(Hmm. I can be stubborn too.....)

All I can say is this was a disapointment. I love NS's books, her phsy/changeling series is fantastic, and I love other books from this line, but this one just didn't do it for me. I felt like the hero had no justification for his treatment of the heroine. I could have bought his reasons for being distrustful if he had somehow been forced to marry the heroine, instead I was left wondering why a man so distrustful of beautiful women would go out of his way to marry one he's never met.

Basic plot, guy wants to date girl, girl's father says marriage or nothing, guy agrees, girl marries guy without talking to him, they move to his home and niether trusts the other reasons for marriage.
