Overall I found it to be a very good book, it explains settings and what they do represent. I'd been using VRay for over 2 years when I read it, so many things I already knew, but the book has shown me some things I didn't know, and also made some things more clear.

It also shows the post production side in photoshop to give the images that final extra something.

Only 1 thing bothered me, I expected to have both Vray and Mental Ray for both examples/projects that you work though in the book.
But the interior is done with Mental Ray and exterior with Vray.

Though the principles may be the same no matter what you use, I was hoping that for each scene you would be shown both setups (Vray, Mental Ray).

A Pleasant Surprise 14. Mai 2013
Von E. Pyle - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. Photo realism is either make it or break it, and a lot depends on the subject matter. With the cover of this book sporting a massive architectural scene, I had almost bought the idea that the book would focus in that direction, as it is the easiest form of realism to obtain.

I was both right AND wrong.

While the book does use architectural (or design) work as the bulk of its example art, there is more to the content of the book than this topical appearance. The initial section is over 125 pages long and packed full of helpful tips and accompanying images. It covers everything from basic scene and file preparation to advanced material techniques and lighting adjustments. In fact, there are even a couple of instructions for unlocking hidden shaders and even adding soft shadows to lights that don't natively support them.

The book then walks through 4 additional sections with tips and tricks for day/night and interior/exterior scenes. Each section contains about 50-60 pages of technique and instruction.

The only thing that the book could use is a disc with the accompanying files pre-loaded. However, since there are instructions on Page 4 for downloading the files from the 3DTotal Publisher website, I can't, in good conscience, detract points from an otherwise exceptional impression. Still, though, it would be nice to have the files on disc so that I wouldn't have to use my own. :)

Finally, this book is clearly for intermediate and advanced 3DS Max users. The instructions within are for people already very familiar with navigating 3DS Max and its tools. It also focuses heavily on VRay (a separate, paid rendering pipeline), though Mental Ray is also covered, albeit in slightly less detail. However, if you are serious about learning and working in 3DS Max, this shouldn't surprise you. As an intermediate (or better) user of 3DS Max, you could most likely have foreseen such an assembly for this book.

It's a great value. Enjoy!
nice book .. no resources 27. März 2014

I got the book months ago, but important part of the book is the resources - the downloadable files - you have to use to complete the tutorials, in the publisher website, the downloads are removed and put an email address which you have to email and to wait for the instructions, I have emailed that mail address twice, with no feedback! without the downloads, the book is useless
disapointing approach to work 13. März 2014
Von Sawyer Fischer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
At a glance the renderings look fine but upon close examination of the workflow it has more to do with superimposing photos onto of the rendering than the actual rendering process. The cover shot itself has many physically incorrect light sources. Might fool some publishers but not something that would fly as a professional image.
From basics to tips and tricks 20. November 2013
Von Predrag Rócneasta Suka - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
One of those books that deserves a read from cover to cover. Going over the workflow and settings for it, to all the parameters you'll encounter while doing your interior/exterior renders. It goes well beyond that point with both technical and practical explanation of steps and effects it achieves. Finally a book that talk about mental ray and v-ray at the same time with same results. Beginners will find it enlightening, more advanced users will try to find all the tips and tricks this book is made up of.
Enjoy
Good reference book, not for advanced users 19. November 2013

The info is quite basic and simple and the form the book is constructed its a little confusing, but i was expecting a more advanced level book, for mid level and beginners i believe its a great resource book.

i would recommend people to buy it it just that i was looking for a different type of intruction level.
