First of all I want to warn all who think this might be the usual Alex Cross psychothriller. It's not. This is rather unusual writing for Patterson. But I think he pulled it off nicely.
I also think that being catholic and being a believer in God is the key to like this book. If you do not believe in God, this book just won't work for you. Other than that I really think this is one of the best of Patterson's books, if not the best. Yes, I read Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls. I read all of Pattersons book. But what I especially liked about this one is that it challenges ones own belief and faith in God and the bible.
I can totally understand that there are so many different opinions about this book because it's different from everything Patterson wrote so far.
But that doesn't mean you need to be a "fanatic" believer or church-goer to appreciate this work. I just ask everyone to keep an open mind about the story and the characters. Maybe it is full of clichés. So what? The world is full of clichès People are full of clichés. The church is full of clichés. The bible is full of clichés. That doesn't make it all bad. Just more human. In a sense it's more believable than Alex Cross. Just think about it for a second.
I did.
