This illustrated work presents bookbinding as an accessible craft that achieves striking results with the simplest materials. Chapters provide a thorough grounding in materials, tools and techniques, and explore a variety of traditional and non-traditional binding methods. Instructions are given for making simple pamphlets, traditional codices, stab bindings, fold books, and many combinations and unusual forms. Exposing the stitching along the book's spine adds yet another range of design options. For each of the seven basic book structures, a simple project is described, followed by a number of variations in technique, ranging from the simple to the relatively complex. Over 170 photographs of artists' works provide additional inspiration for design ideas.

This book is simply THE book for creating your books. The photographs are clear and beautiful. For a beginner, it starts with a very simple technique and progresses to more involved projects. This really helps those interested in pursuing this art. It is also easy to use the book to create your supply list because each is categorized with helpful descriptions and choices. I found all my supplies online at the sites the author suggested.

Aufgrund einer Empfehlung habe ich mir dieses Buch gekauft und es ist wirklich jeden Pfennig wert. Neben vielen Informationen für Anfänger ist das Buch vollgepackt mit unglaublich kreativen Buch-Variationen. Thumbs up!!!!

Shereen LaPlantz approaches the subject of making books with an artistic awareness. She provides a clear introduction to the parts of a book, materials, tools, and basic techniques. She then provides step-by-step instructions on how to make each type, from the simple pamphlet to the highly unusual bindings. The instructions are easy to follow and are accompanied by clear illustrations.

The most remarkable aspect of this book is its pages filled with beautiful color photographs of books made by the author and several artists. I bought this text because I was interested in making a simple binding for a family history book, but after reading Cover to Cover, I have a new perspective on bookmaking - I now see it as a form of art with a whole range of possibilities. And it's an art which is accessable to all.
