Kurzbeschreibung

The last woman Thomas, Lord Avondale, expected to fall in love with was the wife he betrayed and abandoned six years ago. When Rose doesn't accept his apology, however, he loses all hope of a happy future together. Yet he's thankful she has agreed to come to his bed to beget an heir.

Known as the Ice Maiden at Queen Elizabeth I's court, Rose has been trying to forget the man she once loved—a love she thought destroyed after he spent their wedding night with his mistress. Withstanding Thomas's charms, however, is proving more difficult than she expected.

Can she forgive the ultimate betrayal?

Can he ever atone for what he did?

Note: Courting His Countess is a novella of approximately 20,000 words, about one-quarter the size of a full-length novel. I've priced it as low as I am able.

A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
COURTING HIS COUNTESS may be shorter than most of my other books, but it was one of the most difficult stories I've ever written. What Thomas did to his wife is despicable and when I began to write, I didn't think I could make you, the reader, believe he was hero material. Yet the characters and their tale wouldn't leave my head, nor would the opening lines, so I wrote the story anyway.

As I progressed, and especially when I switched to Thomas's viewpoint, I realized how very male he was being, and part of me started to feel sorry for him. Being a nobleman of his time, he just didn't get it. Not until he finally saw how his actions had affected a wonderful, strong woman.

COURTING HIS COUNTESS breaks one of the "rules" of the romance genre, and I know some of you will find Thomas's actions unforgiveable. I certainly don't blame you for that! But I've never been very good at sticking to the rules, and I hope you don't blame ME for listening to the voices in my head.

Happy reading!
~CJ

5.0 von 5 Sternen Perfekte Kurzgeschichte!!! 22. Mai 2013
Von maMadame
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf

2.0 von 5 Sternen Is that really courting? 25. August 2013
Von Kai
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
The first chapter was available in the preview, and I loved it, I loved the dialogue, and the heroine was really sassy and nice. As soon as the preview part ended, though, the story changed. The heroine became a wimp, both the hero and heroine started doing things that they had sworn they would not do. That made the characterisation really poor, in my eyes. And yeah, jumping to bed has always been the cure for all ills, right? Right. That made the plotline poor, in my eyes. It was neither romantic nor sexy.

After six years of absence Thomas, Lord Avondale returns home to his wife to produce an heir. But there is no warm welcome because he abadoned his wife six years ago in their wedding night before their marriage was consumated. Instead he went to his mistress. Having always loved him deeply she was hurt to the core. But now she has to do her wifely duty although she swore never to forgive him. When he comes back she is prepared not to let him into her heart again.

For six years Thomas has regreted what he has done to his wife. He had tried to apologize but never succeeded. By his return he doesn't expect the extend of her hatred. One by one he realizes the damage he had done and which agony she has had to endure since then.

I enjoyed this novella. Hero and heroine are likable and the twists of the story are plausible but not surprising.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A good story 8. Mai 2013
Von Book Luver - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I was a little iffy about this story being as there were no reviews and the authors note on the book. As the author says our hero starts out as a cheater, but for sevral reasons I forgave him. The first being that his wife was 15 when he married her, second he barely knew his wife on hs wedding day, and lastly after he cheats he leaves town for 6 years because of his anger. Then when he gets back he falls imediately in love with his wife and suppports, loves and begs his wife for forgiveness.
The story is well written with a few typos here or there but nothing major that takes away from the story. It is a sweet read and very romantic. At about 100 pages, its perfect before bed.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent read! 11. Mai 2013

"I have to get away from you." Thomas, the Earl of Avondale, has made a huge error in judgment. Six years ago he married the lovely Rose, making her the Countess of Avondale at the sweet young age of 16, and then left their marriage bed after uttering these seven fateful words. Rose was devastated that her handsome husband apparently didn't love her after all, choosing instead to be with his mistress, and now she finds herself in an untenable position. Thomas has returned home to beget an heir and as his wife she is expected to produce that heir. How can Rose even let him near her, let alone sleep with him, when her foolish heart still flutters in his presence despite all the hurt he heaped on it? She has made a life in his family home of Lockhart and now he threatens to undo everything she has worked so hard to achieve. Rose is not ready to forgive and forget, despite Thomas' insistence that he has seen the error of his ways, and she must keep him at arm's distance lest her body betrays her and gives in to the thing she wants the most--her husband, in love with her and in her bed forever.

I was thrilled to be invited to review this novella by the author herself and I have to say it was a great read! CJ Archer has a great feel for historical fiction and weaves a wonderful story with interesting characters while staying true to the time period in which they live. I found Rose to be strong and forthright. She understood what was expected of her but that didn't mean she had to like it or agree with it. Thomas, on the other hand, realizes that he blew the best thing that had ever happened to him and must find a way to rectify that. The story may be set in the 1500's but the relationship issues are just as fresh today as they were 500 years ago! Men are so often clueless and women must teach them how to behave if there is going to be any hope of a relationship between them. CJ handles these relationship issues with humor and understanding, making her books real page-turners. I have read a few of her stories now and have loved every one!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Good Story 28. Mai 2013

I picked it up and couldn't put it down until I finished it. Having brought it accidently, (thought it was a Regency)...I quickly and happily joined the Elizabethan period. Liked the characters, strong but not overly stupid, although our herione does try to take "stubborn holdout" to a whole new level. I didn't know when I brought it it was just a novella, however, at .99 it was well worth the price and precisly long enough. Great descriptions of both decor and fashion. Found it interesting how extreme the "court" could influence someone's life during those times. I would look for this author again...

This was a fun story. With lots of plot twists and entanglements. But I like the sex to be way more emotional and not so graphic.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A New Face Of Grovel Book 1. September 2013
Von Bukcrz - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
As a reader, I want to see a hero who really earned the heroine's vengeance bleed on his knees. And in this story the hero did earn the heroine's anger and more. Like I said I want to see them (bad behaving heroes) earn their forgiveness with blood and sweat.
The way this story is structured though, I understand the almost lack of 'bleeding knee grovel' on the hero's part. Instead it's the heroes bleeding heart that convince me to agree with the heroine's forgiveness - barely. This is a short story yet it was a satisfying read because we can read both hero and heroine's POV and that saved this book's lack of long grovel on the hero's part. It is on the hero's POV that the reader can see the sincerity of his remorse, maturity, and intent.
I love the heroine as well, strong backbone and mind, has a self-respect that earned my respect as well, and a heart that also earned my sympathy.
Overall, this is a book I loved and will recommend to all historical reader.
