Martial law and civil unrest run rampant. Resistance cells and pockets of Chodrecai sympathizers are gathering strength. And two U.S. Marines—Sergeant Major Simon DiCarlo and Sergeant Belinda Russell— remain trapped on the alien planet of Jontashreena. Now, as human and Plysserian scientists and engineers race to unlock the intergalactic portals and harvest alien technology, Earth prepares for the most explosive battle for its existence. Joining the war effort are recruits like young Colin Laney, who will advance from Marine boot camp to the forefront of a massive invasion on alien terrain—with the fate of two worlds hanging in the balance.
Über den Autor
Dayton Ward served for eleven years in the U.S. Marine Corps before discovering the private sector and the piles of cash to be made there as a software engineer. He got his start in professional writing by placing stories in each of Pocket Books’ first three Star Trek: Strange New Worlds anthologies. He is the author of dozens of Star Trek novels, many written in collaboration with coauthor Kevin Dilmore. He recently penned a tie-in to the cult classic television series The 4400, and is currently at work on a new Star Trek novel to be released in Fall 2010.
Though he currently lives in Kansas City with his wife, Michi, he is a Florida native and still maintains a torrid long-distance romance with his beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Disappointing

I was so disappointed when I read this book. I thought the first book was ok and was a good build-up into an awesome cross planet space war. Instead there were only a few half decent fights and the war seemed to end suddenly with little involvement from the main characters.
So the author maintains twenty different characters all with their own sub-plots and it didn't go anywhere.
I want fighting, tactics, adventure. Humans wandering across an alien land fighting a war they barely understand.
Ahhh there was so much potential there.. I'm really disappointed.

Not a bad sequel

Although not a bad read, Counterstrike suffers from a common sequel ailment: living up to its predecessor. It dragged at times, and the length of time between the release of the first book and this one meant re-familiarizing myself with the characters. Overall, worth your time to keep up on the storyline, but nothing spectacular.
Good Sequel and engaging read.

"Counterstrike: the last world war" is a good sequel to "The Last World War". The author weaves a deep and more complex story and delves more into some of the politics of whole combined plot of the two books. I found this book to be a little slow to get going, but one going had a nice and engaging pace. Over all a Good read.
