Good source. 5. Juli 2007

I read the one review on this book and I don't agree. I think if you don't know anything about accounting information systems this book might appear to be scattered. However, if you have some exposure to AIS(Accounting Information Systems) you'll immediately recognize the flow of topics is typical of the subject. The author is very thorough and organized in his coverage and gives required insight. A book about AIS is not going to read like an accounting textbook, nor are the topics going to be mastered in the same way. I really liked the book. I originally read the library's copy, but I bought my own because it was so good and I wanted a copy.

I don't recommend this book to any student because it is NOT a textbook. It is more like a lengthy article written by the authors that they know the topic assuming that the readers know too. But authors' efforts are useless if they fail to impart their knowledge effectively. They didn't bother to explain concepts, illustrate models generously, and quote examples from the professionals' world. It seems to be very concise book and it definitely is, but from a "textbook", I expect more. I refer some better books here and I suggest the authors should redo their work by keeping in view they are writing a textbook. I recommend the following books, and I hope any one following my suggestion shall appreciate that. Both Accounting Information Systems (11th Edition) and Accounting Information Systems: Controls and Processes are the textbooks on the topic meeting student's quest. Thank you.

Didn't Like It 28. Mai 2010

I am a student who used this book for my AIS class. After getting to know it for the semester, I have to say I really didn't like this text. The way the information is presented is incredibly dry. There is not really any color in the book besides black and blue, I didn't think there were enough real world examples, and I would have liked to have seen some more multiple choice review questions at the end of the chapters. I just feel like AIS is a subject that has a lot of potential to be incredibly dry (I mean who wants to talk about flowcharts for 2 chapters?) and given that I find it especially important for the author to make the book visually appealing with loads of real world situations and examples to show the importance of concepts with some more creative figures and pictures within the book. The style of writing could stand to be a little more engaging as well. Obviously AIS is an important subject and very relevant to our financial systems, but if we need to learn about it, why not make it a little more appealing?
