Kurzbeschreibung
A new way to "think."
Caution. The techniques in this book can enable you to direct more attention toward
your physical sensations than you ever could before. If that sounds like something
that would cause discomfort, this book might not be for you. If you have ever had a
panic attack, or fear you might, or if you have ever been diagnosed with a psychological
disorder, I advise you to consult with a professional therapist before trying any of the
techniques.
Imagine uncomfortable feelings you've had all of your life suddenly shift and feel comfortable
and relaxed. That comfortable shift seems spontaneous and natural. You feel sure those
feelings will be comfortable for the rest of your life.
Imagine being with a group of people and feeling shy, awkward, and unsure of how to act.
Then, by using a few simple techniques that change your state of mind, you feel connected
to everyone and comfortably talk with anyone.
Imagine feeling new life and new connections with your romantic relationships or your
relationships with your family. Imagine that you'll never need to feel bored again no
matter how mundane the task. Imaging a day when all of your feelings work for you and
everything you want to do.
Core Catharsis includes techniques that relieve anxiety and turn negative emotions into
positive emotions. The techniques use abilities you already have such as curiosity or
a sense of wonder. These abilities are used in a ways that create new experience and
resolve repression. A sense of wonder cannot only help you learn, it can also heal emotions.
Ever notice when you're curious about something you're neither happy nor unhappy. You're
simply engaged. The mental state or process of curiosity just doesn't include feeling
happy or unhappy. This book introduces an approach that could be seen as a mental or
experiential trick. Since you cannot feel unhappy while being curious, what would happen
if you were curious about your unhappy or uncomfortable feelings?
Let's give it try. For at least twenty minutes, focus on an uncomfortable feeling or emotion.
Ask yourself what the feeling is. When you get an answer, ask what else the feeling is
or could be. When you get another answer, ask again, and again, and so on. Does the feeling
change in some way? Is there less struggle?
Notice there's no end to it. Answers are not a stopping point. When you get an answer,
look for another one. If you feel a great understanding, a revelation, or insight,
still look for more. Keeping curiosity alive and engaging experience is really the goal,
not answers.
The techniques of Core Catharsis give you the ability to engage any experience fully.
Instead of doggedly working on how to "fix" your problems, you can use your problems
to help you do anything you want. Instead of trying to break habits, you can use your
habits to develop new ones. Just like buildings can be made from trash and our food
grows with the help of manure. There's no need to throw anything out or repress anything.
Fighting yourself isn't part of the techniques or of creating deep and lasting catharses.
Section one of the book starts with the core techniques of questions, association,
engaging impulses, and using experiential filters. You will see how asking questions
about painful feelings can make them comfortable. You'll become skilled at assimilating
feelings fully into your sense of self. Once assimilated, any feeling can assist you with
any goal or at least not be a distraction. Your impulses can become useful allies instead
of annoyances.
