The story opens with the shipwreck on a Pacific Island of the young friends Ralph Rover and Jack Martin and Peterkin Gray. Despite the pleasurable presence of delicious breadfruit, coconuts, and succulent oysters, the intrepid trio are not alone and they soon witness a battle between rival bands of cannibals led by 'Bloody Bill'.Their lives are placed in serious peril from which only courage and determined pluck can save them. An enormously popular adventure since its publication in 1857, it provoked William Golding to write Lord of the Flies, offering an alternative view of how English boys would behave when released from the constraints of civilisation.
Synopsis
This story tells of three young sailors, sole survivors of a wreck, and their discovery of the enchanting beauties of the South Pacific. They learn how to live on their tropical paradise but then they are swept into adventures with bloodthirsty pirates, before sailing back to England.

The story starts out when Ralph Rover {15 years old} following in his father's footsteps ventures out on the seas for the first time. The coaurse leads to the south pacific islands. While on board the ship Ralph makes 2 very good friends very brave and adventurous brave 18 year old Jack and 14 sneeky and humorous young Peterkin.The ship gets caught in a massive storm and the 3 young englishmen are washed along the shores of an island with fortunetely a ton of food!But after getting to cocky the paradise of an island becomes a warzone with a party of cannibal islanders and a large pirate ship coming towards them. Peterkin must encourage the and drive the other 2 friends for the will to build a boat and escape the paradise while Jack and Ralph must put thier knowledge of the world to help the 3 friends to survive.

In the english orphanage that I grew up in, the only book available to me was The Coral Island. Now @ age 45, whenever friends ask me about my life, travelling the world and living on an Island (Ambergris Caye) - I refer them to this very fine book.

After reading this book about 5 times I have got into the routine of reading it again every summer as it reminds me of holidays and the sun. It really is a good book, it is a typical Adventure story and anybody ...even adults will love it. I am coming on 17 now and i still have not grown out of it!

If you're a lover of the sea and topical islands this book is for you. I put this up there with Treasure Island, Robinson Crusue, Swiss Family Robinson.

Written overall in a bad style, with an uncreative plot.
Golding does an excellent paroday of this "book" with Lord of the Flies. The only good part is the description. I found that the story dragged on and on. Lesen Sie weiter...
