Having taught Family and Consumer Science (Home Economics) for the past thirty years I have become educated by my career and I have learned to appreciate the many cultures I have come into contact with. This cookbook represents those cultures, as well as, my culture and background growing up in a very colorful town, Natchitoches, Louisiana.Natchitoches represents many different cuisines, from French to Mexican, and many in-between. The recipes in this cookbook were handed down from my mother, some I developed myself, and there are some that I "ran across" and did not know who to give credit. Many consider Natchitoches to be a mini New Orleans because of original dishes such as Natchitoches Meat Pies. I hope that those who buy this book will enjoy trying the recipes, or even come to Natchitoches and let someone prepare them at a Bed and Breakfast or one of our fine restaurants. The "Cane" mentioned on the cover, refers to Cane River. It runs through Natchitoches and is one of the visual assets of the our town.
Über den Autor
HelloMy name is Norma Collier Melder Grafton. I have taught Family and Consumer Science for over 30 years. My tenure has been in several schools, and in several diverse communities. I taught school while raising three children, who are now 30, 28, and 26. At the moment, my daughter, Melissa is expecting her first child in October, and my first grandchild. My youngest son Christopher loves cooking and has held several jobs as a grill cook in restaurants and is now trying to finish college. He wants eventually to own his own restaurant. Jeremy, my middle child, is a "jack of all trades" and works as a manager of a marine company about 60 miles from Natchitoches. My children have been my inspiration for the past 30 years and I love them dearly. I do love cooking, especially for my family, and it is just something that warms my heart. This is one reason I wrote this book. I had these recipes, and I just wanted to be sure I kept them together in some form. I have a favorite pooch, Charlie. He is my 11 year old West Highland White Terrier. He has been my buddy through good and bad. I also have a white Lab, Crackerjack, and a German Short-haired Pointer. His name is Barkley. I love animals, and I have always had a pet.I split my time between a lake house above Ruston, Louisiana, and a house I rent in Natchitoches. I love spending a lot of time in the "Steel Magnolias" town. I have returned to teaching this year, and I am enjoying the experience immensely. At the present time I am waiting to spoil my first grandchild. I plan soon to compile a cookbook for children, and dedicate it to Collier, grandchild #1.
