Love it! 6. August 2002
Von "grperp" - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
I am a beginning quilter, and this book has projects that I can do easily, plus others that will challenge my abilities, but also teach me new skills (such as set-in seams). I also appreciate how Judy Martin gives yardage in length and in fat quarters.
I am ordering a muffin top pan soon so that I can make many of the cookie recipes (lots of butter in these recipes, but yummy!)

I love Judy Martin's work 31. Januar 2002
Von "kucki68" - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Since I love Judy Martin's work, I knew I had to have this one. And indeed the quilts are quite lovely, even though not many new patterns in there if you have her other books. The quilts are based on the idea of superimposing a pattern over another, eg maple leafs on logcabin blocks. Judy Martin has done this before and the results are always wonderful. I already have decided to make a small wall hanging with the friendship star quilt for my new office.
I only gave the cookie part a passing glance. The cookies looked and sounded delicious, but I doubt I will make any. This is due to the difficulties to translate the American measurements (1 cup etc) to something my German tools will measure. But then I just might play around with it till it works.

Ths book is just okay 27. Februar 2003
Von M. Thoresen - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
First of all, I do not care for any of the cookie recipes in this book. I haven't made them all, but the ones I have tried were simply too rich - and yes, there is such a thing, at least to some tastes! Also, many of the recipes call for "unusual" ingredients or equipment such as cinnamon chips or a muffin-top pan, and these things may not be readily available to those who live in small towns or outside the US.
The quilt section, however, was better. Most of the quilts are lap or wall sized, with a couple of bed sized quilts thrown in. Some are appropriate for an advanced beginner, while others require a certain amount of experience. They all have a more or less "scrappy" look to them. They are all nice quilts, though I don't think any of them are really outstanding. There is only one quilt, a log cabin variation, that I actually plan on making. One thing I really do like about this book, however, is that the fabric requirements are given in both yardage and fat quarters. I have the feeling that if you want to replicate the look of the quilts in the book, you would use fat quarters.
This is a perfectly respectable book, and certainly nice to have if you collect quilting books. But if you plan on choosing only a few excellent books, I would try to find something different.

Great Book! 2. Januar 2005
Von J. Johnson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
I admit that when I first ordered this book, I didn't think that I would really be interested in the recipes. I was so wrong, the cookie recipes are really wonderful! I think that both chocolate and quilts are a comfort in my life.:)
The quilts are equally wonderful and quite simple to piece for an intermediate quilter. I love the Log Cabin that looks like a Snail's Trail or Virgina Reel. Can't wait to make this one! The more I look through this book, the more I like it. Imagine a Log Cabin block with a leaf in the corner. It makes a stunning quilt! Can't go wrong with Judy!

1/16" measurements, complicated instructions 31. August 2009
Von Jen S. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
I made a quilt using this book in a class and it was the most confusing, complicated thing to construct, and I've been quilting for over 7 years now and would consider myself to be a fairly advanced quilter. We made the star within a star quilt, and it required us to measure to 1/16th of an inch, which when aligning fabric using the lines on a ruler, cutting, and then sewing with a 1/4" seam allowance, made if very difficult to see a difference between the 1/16" and 1/8" cuts. In addition, the instructions for this quilt were extremely complicated. Thank goodness we were making this in a class because everyone was so confused about the instructions and continuously had to ask the instructor for clarification, who often had to take some time to figure out what the heck the book was talking about even though she had already made the quilt once and taught the class before. Needless to say, this quilt/book/class hasn't been offered by the instructor or the shop again, and for valid reasons. I would never recommend this book, and would honestly consider it to be the worst quilt book I own, and I have quite a collection of quilting books.
