This book is a very comprehensive guide. It explains how to grow your own vegetables in containers. It is not a long read which is good. It means you can read it and be ready to start planting almost as fast as you can get to the nursery to buy needed supplies.

Why use containers? Not everyone has a garden. I am sure that people who own or rent houses in small towns can find it hard to believe that there is a entire group of people who do not have a single patch of ground around their house. These people live in apartments, high rises and condos that resemble apartments! If you are one of these folks, you have probably despaired about ever being able to taste a vegetable grown by yourself, picked at the peak of ripeness and eaten with the satisfaction that you know exactly what chemicals did or did not come in contact with it.

For those people, this is your book!

There are 9 chapters in this book.

1) The Benefits of Growing Your Own Vegetables
2) The Basics of Growing Your Own Vegetable In Containers
3) Useful Tools
4) The Potting Soil
5) Watering Container Vegetables
6) Fertilizing Your Crops
7) Growing Vegetables Indoors
8) 10 Vegetables You Can Easily Grow in Containers
9) How to Quickly Make Your Own Miniature Greenhouse At Very Little Cost

These chapters are well written, with details you need to grow your vegetables in containers. The book is full of information you do need and not fleshed out with information that won't help you. One bonus for me was a "recipe" for homemade potting mix. In an age where you can buy potting mix in bags, it is good to find a recipe to make your own. It gives you an idea of what good soil should consist of instead of the author saying "Go buy a bag of X brand and use that."

By reading this book you will learn how to enrich your life by growing your own vegetables. The vegetables suggested tells you certain strains the author has had good results with, and includes how deep to plant, what size pot, and how many inches apart to thin the sprouts for optimum growth potential.

If you are a newbie, it is the perfect book for you. Seasoned gardeners probably will not learn as much from it, but the book is designed for those new to growing plants. There are pictures to show various tools you will need, a picture showing what good soil should look like, and pictures showing steps of how to make your own miniature greenhouse.

this book says things like, "there are many vegetables that can be grown indoors without extra light," but does not mention which ones.

I have read several books on this topic, which you can see if you check my previous reviews, so I’m becoming a bit of an expert on gardening without acreage. Funny though, that no other book that I read actually told the reader what kind of tools to use. I had to go to the hardware store and pick things out for myself. I currently have two tools at home that looked useful, and actually are not. Had I read this first, I wouldn’t have bought those two items. This book talks about the proper type of soil to use… yes, that’s right, I bought the wrong stuff the first time I tried this sort of thing. It has since been tossed out into what little yard I have. There are parts of this book that are in common with others that I have read, in regard to the benefits of gardening, fresh vegetables ready to use, better health, saving money, etc. Those are necessary for a first time reader. The basics on set-up and getting started are great. I wish I had bought this book first. THAT would have saved me money. Good read, good book.

Everyone know that homegrown vegetables like tomatoes that are picked right off the vine are the absolute best! This well-written resource book explains how to grow your own succulent veggies no matter where you live. It comprehensively covers all the basics of growing veggies in containers—all kinds of suitable containers. Dr. Stone includes a secret potting soil mixture, leaf-mould tea, and shows you what tools you will need. And the best part is it doesn’t cost a lot. In fact, growing your own organic veggies can save you money! The section I particularly like is “10 vegetables you can easily grow in containers.” I think this book is definitely a treasure chest of information, with helpful tips and easy-to-follow steps to make your container gardening successful. I highly recommend this handy, informative guide.
5.0 von 5 Sternen A good read that carefully explains the basics of indoor gardening 4. August 2014

The title of the book really speaks of its content. I never realized indoor gardening sounds so easy as Dr. John Stone tackled in his book. I often think planting vegetables inside my house is messy, but Dr. Stone's tips gave me a better perspective. I thought about planting salad greens for convenience- I can make my meals anytime when the plants have fully grown and at the same time the foliage would be decorative and make my abode cooler. But there are limitations when plants are grown in a limited container. It's worth the try, nonetheless. I'll read again the tips in the book to remedy that problem. Container Vegetable Gardening Made Easy is a good read for beginner-gardeners. It's nice that the basics of indoor gardening have been carefully explained in this book.
