Paul Krugman, geb. 1953 in New York, ist ein amerikanischer Ökonom der jungen Generation. Seine Arbeit wurde u.a. 1991 durch die Verleihung der John-Bates-Clark-Medaille für den besten Nachwuchswissenschaftler gewürdigt. 1998 erhielt Krugman die Ehrendoktorwürde der Freien Universität Berlin, und im Jahr 2000 wurde ihm in Nürnberg der Horst-Recktenwald-Preis für Nationalökonomie verliehen.
Bereits mit 24 Jahren schloss er seine Promotion am renommierten Massachusetts Institute of Technologie (MIT) mit einer Arbeit über flexible Wechselkurse ab. Im selben Jahr trat er seine erste Professur an der Yale University an. Neben seinen Lehr- und Forschungstätigkeiten arbeitet Krugman als Berater, u.a. 1992 in der Wahlkampapagne für Bill Clinton. Derzeit lehrt er am Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. Neben seiner wissenschaftlichen Tätigkeit schreibt Krugman für zahlreiche Zeitungen und hat schon einige erfolgreiche Bücher publiziert. 2008 wurde der mit dem Wirtschaftsnobelpreis ausgezeichnet.
