I read the 201 version of this book but never took the exam, and recently began reading this book and I'm happy to say it's at least as good as the previous edition if not better. It's not just a slight modification of the original book CompTIA Security+: Get Certified Get Ahead: SY0-201 Study Guide, but is truly updated with current, relevant topics for the SY0-301 Security+ exam. The author has a great way of using relevant analogies and real-life stories to make points so that they really stick with you. One story comes to mind where a Fannie Mae employee was fired and installed a logic bomb. It helped reinforce what a logic bomb is and also tied into the importance of disabling accounts which was covered in a different chapter. The book is highly informative and a pleasure to read, and the practice test questions really help me think about the content. I'm taking the exam for sure this time and I'll update this review after I take the exam, but I'm feeling pretty good right now.
Update: I took the exam today and passed with an 874/900. This book gave me all I needed to pass and there wasn't anything that wasn't familiar. The practice test questions are excellent and I really like the way the book builds and connects relevant topics. I used the pre-test, read through all the chapters including the practice test questions at the end of each chapter, and did the post test. I then went back over some topics I wasn't sure about. If you want to pass the 301 exam, this is the book you need.
