Über den Autor
Gerry Swan is currently an Associate of the Australian Museum and Editor of the journal Herpetofauna. He is the author of several books and spends much of his time as a wildlife consultant and author. He is an established New Holland author, having written the popular Green Guide to Snakes and Other Reptiles of Australia. Wildlife photographer and author Steve Wilson works at the Queensland Museum as the Inquiry Centre Supervisor. He fields countless natural history inquiries from the general public. He has contributed to numerous articles on natural history to such popular magazines as GEO, BBC Wildlife, Das Tier and Australian Geographic and is co-author, with David Knowles, of Australia's Reptiles (1988) as well as writing two chapters of the popular bestseller, Wildlfie of Great Brisbane. Steve specializes in Herpetology and has authored several descriptions of new species of snakes and lizards in Australia.

One of the best fieldguides to Australian reptiles !

Great book, handy size ! Which means you can actually take this book with you and use it to identify all those Australian herps.
The photos are of a very good quality. Paper quality is great, text is short but to the spot and the distribution maps are of good quality as well.
Conclusion: Going to Australia and want your herps identified on the spot ? Use this book. Avid reptile lover at home and want to learn more of the reptiles of Australia ? great addition to your collection.

This is an amazing book to have if you are really into Australian reptiles and want to learn how to identify them. Great descriptions and good photographs, this book will be especially useful for people who are going to be in Australia and want to be able to identify any potential run-ins with the reptiles there :) At the time of publishing, this edition is said to feature every single reptile found in Australia, which is an amazing attribute this book has, and this comprehensiveness will surely be sufficient for the completest in all of us! The book is now out in a third edition and hopefully Amazon will eventually be selling this, but in the meantime this edition will do :)

When I first purchased this review, I thought that it covered half of all the herpetofauna. What I got was all of them in a small package. This book has many rare photos, good knowledge and is portable.
