Welcome to Amazon.com and thank you for your interest in the "Complete Foaling Manual." This book actually began as a collection of stories about my experiences with mares and foals, but as I wrote, I realized how much I would have to explain for the reader to fully understand the process. That's when it occurred to me that I had more to offer than just stories--that I could actually help people who were in the same boat I had been so many years ago. Back then, I searched and searched for reading material that would answer my questions and calm my fears. There was very little material available and most of my questions went unanswered. My goal with the "Complete Foaling Manual" was to use the experience I had gained to answer all those questions for others. I worked very hard to keep the text down-to-earth and practical in order to give even the most inexperienced foaling attendant confidence as s/he participates in this wondrous event. Every question I could think of is answered in the book: prefoaling signs and the many variations that can occur; the three stages of a normal delivery; abnormal deliveries--how to identify a problem, when to call the vet, and what to do until s/he arrives; normal postpartum care for the mare and foal; how to tell when the mare or foal is in trouble after the delivery; caring for a sick or weak newborn; and much more. The book is also packed with invaluable photographs and illustrations. I hear from readers all the time and it is both gratifying and extremely humbling to know that the book is truly helping people and thereby, their animals. It is my fondest hope that the "Complete Foaling Manual" will answer all your questions and make the delivery of your foal the beautiful experience it should be. Happy foaling! Theresa

Theresa Jones has created a wonderful, easy to read and understand manual that is a must for the first time or experienced horse breeder. The book is accurate, written so it is very understandable by the layman, yet full of good medical advice and knowledge. To supplement the book Theresa Jones provides an advice column online to answer specific problems encountered in foaling.

This book is an excellent book on the foaling proceedure and what you have to do, and know. What I most liked about it was its common sense approach and though the problems that the mare and foal can encounter were mentioned, advice was given on how to handle these problems. Some of the other foaling books on the market emphasis all the problems that can occur to the point that one feels that a mare should never be bred. This book is not at all like that.

This is by far the most comprehensive and explanatory book I have read on the subject of foaling mares. The author is extremely knowledgeable and she writes the book in easy to understand terminology. She includes actual case histories and the problems and solutions involved in each. A must for every breeder!
