I have been purchasing this book ever since the 1st edition in May of 79. While it's true typoes are made and other mistakes occur, they aren't serious ones, and are usually remedied by the next issue 3 years later. In addition, Brooks and Marsh include new info on old shows at times. For example, the 7th edition is the first to identify Wrangler Jane from F Troop's middle and last name "Jane Angelica Thrift". A must have for every tv fan.

I have used this book to teach a class on American Television to students in Germany. It's great to have realiable and easily accessible information on when certain shows were first aired, how long they ran for, what their central concerns and distinctive features were etc. Scholars, students, as well as TV fans will find a good first overview concerning the shows that interest them. Of course the individual entries are not very extensive, but they provide a good basis. A useful history of television in America precedes the entries on hundreds of shows.
Highly recommended for general readers as well as experts.

This edition encompasses the earlier ones and adds lots of cable channel info. However, I discovered that the program "Shades of LA" which was in the previous edition is missing, or else not where it should be.
