When Lillian's husband learns he's the cause of their infertility, he's gone before morning. Lillie does what any self-respecting woman would do, she turns to Ben and Jerry's and refuses to leave the house. Eventually, she has to venture out to replenish her supply of Phish Food, and runs into her mother-in-law, struggling with the care of her special needs niece.

Ashamed by her self-indulgent behavior, Lillie finds strength she didn't know she had to create the family she'd always wanted. Later when Jonathan returns, Lillie hopes to find the closure she lacked from his speedy departure. But instead, he needs a favor and Lillie's the only one who can help. She knows the best thing to do is to forget the past and put her crumbled marriage behind her...or is it?

Sometimes coming home, isn't to a place on the map...but a place in your heart.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Coming Home Always Feels Right 18. April 2011

Just finished reading Coming Home by Julie Sellers and had to encourage others to download it, too! This women's fiction introduces you to a protagonist any woman could identify with. The author shows you Lillie's strength, her kids, her humor, and then her problems. She is a three dimensional character, and you really feel the heartbreak and discouragement she's overcome.

Jon, and why he ever left a woman like Lillie, is a mystery at first. But he is a heart-wrenchingly sensitive man who tore out his own soul to try to make Lillie happy. There is a full cast of very visible characters I enjoyed, and one surprising dose of reality after the next throughout the story.

I felt completely immersed in the world this writer created. I love that Julie Sellers took the time to flesh out her characters and make every-day life seem special. The engaging style, details, and emotions make Lillie and Jon palpable. They came to life on the page and made me root for them, cry for them, and rejoice with them. Highly recommended!

Julie Sellers has written a heartwarming, memorable story with characters who stay with you long after you finish the book. Women can relate to Lillie's challenges, and her heartbreak, and cheer for her as she works to redefine home and family. I enjoyed it thoroughly and am looking forward to the next book in the series!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Coming Home by Julie Sellers 12. Juni 2012

Julie Sellers' "Coming Home" is the story of a woman who desperately wants children with her husband, Jonathan, but Jonathan learns that he is the cause of the couple's inability to have a family and in order to save his wife, Lillie, more pain he leaves without telling her why. For seven years Lillie goes about her life and finds new hope after pulling herself up by the bootstraps. She remains friendly with Jonathan's mother who cares for his special needs niece. On a surprising day in her life, Jonathan returns to see his mother and Lillie wants some closure to the relationship and she wants to know why he left.

I usually don't read romance novels, but I read a collection of essays written by Julie Sellers that I liked very much, and my intentions were always to read her novel. I found it engaging from the beginning and the character of Lillie was built from the beginning to be a strong woman who made her own life despite overwhelming problems. She worked very hard for what she wanted and Lillie remained a very kind and caring person throughout the novel.

I enjoyed it very much and I'd love to see the author write more in the Whitetail, Minnesota Series.

Recommended for romance novel fans and general fiction readers.

When I read the description, I thought this book showed promise, but I was sorely disappointed. There were just too many implausible things going on, from the Lillie-Jonathan relationship to the almost unbelievable kids, to even the geography. Let me explain: the fact that Lillie and Jonathan supposedly loved each other so much but didn't tell each other the truth just bothered me. The character of Hope, the six-year-old, was okay, I guess, but Alex, at three, is just way more mature than any three-year-old I've ever known. His language skills are phenomenal, considering that he was adopted from another country and probably didn't have any language when Lillie first got him. The geography? Well, when Jon had to take his mother to the Mayo Clinic, and then wanted her to stay at his place in Minnesota so she would be closer to him--geographically this doesn't even make sense. His place in the BWCA is four hours north of Duluth, which is about four hours from Rochester, so actually Donna's home in Indiana would probably be closer to Rochester than to Whitetail. These things are minor, I know, but a well-crafted story wouldn't have such inconsistencies.

All of that aside, what bothered me the most about this book was the parade of mistakes. I realize this may be due to poor editing, but if that's the case, then find an editor! The book was riddled with wrong word choices (sat instead of set, many times--he sat the plate on the table; Champaign--a city in Illinois--instead of champagne; waived instead of waved; pouring over his books instead of poring; peaked instead of peeked; faired instead of fared; shear instead of sheer; chic flick instead of chick flick). I also found the author's style to be trite, using expressions that are either very outdated or sometimes just awkward. Some offenders that left me scratching my head: "memories bounced around his skull"; "cutting off Cassie's harried yell for her car keys [did she really expect the keys to respond?]"; "she cried and cried like there was no tomorrow"; and the one that takes the cake, "assimilate (?) the shear [sheer] negligee Lillie wore." All of these things, along with the frequent punctuation mistakes, made it very hard for me to concentrate on a story that wasn't that good to begin with. Sorry to be so negative, but this book was just a waste of time.
