5.0 von 5 Sternen In Living Color 7. Oktober 2010
Von An Indy Fan - Veröffentlicht auf
This book is stunning! I've been waiting years for a color guide to comic books and it has finally arrived -- in a big way. What I like about the book is that it features more than 3,000 color images and dozens and dozens of covers run full page. And it still costs less than Overstreet! In addition to that, the book provides hundreds of series reviews. I find that very helpful because there are plenty of comic book series I'm not familiar with, and now I am. I really bought the book for the color pictures but I find myself reading it more than any other guide I've ever owned. It's almost unfair to call it a price guide because it provides so much more than values. Really enjoy it.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Comics Shop 17. März 2011
Von 'Hawks Fan - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
Comics Shop is a decent price guide with a lot of beautiful(full color)images of some of the titles listed. The pricing list is a bit limited though, consisting of only ONE grading price per issue(pricing seems in the VF area listed in an other popularly used price guide). It also contains information helping persons understand the grading of books, and a historical break-down of the various comic book Eras. An informational and useful tool in any comics fans book collection.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Just the worst price guide ever written. 2. Februar 2013
Von TOM KELLY - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
I figured something by Maggie Thompson would be good, boy was I wrong. Let's start out with the totally out of touch and inaccurate prices. It is so far off on some books it looks like they just copied prices from Overstreet. Overstreet from 1984. Case in point, X-Men #1 in Near Mint is listed at $7,000. Overstreet lists X-Men #1 as $16,500 in 2007 and $35,000 in 2013. Some may say even Overstreet is a bit low for that book but still reflective of a market price for a book without 3rd party grading. "The Comic Shop" states " price guide as derived prices from monitoring online sales, shop sales and auctions sale and are for comics in Near Mint condition. The term for this grade is the same one used for CGC's 9.4 grade." What a load of bull. Could you buy an X-Men #1 CGC 9.4 for $7,000 in 2010? How about a Fantastic Four #1 for $20,000? Ridiculous. Even for a guide that is now 3 years old, it is so far off that I really do not think the writers did any type of serious monitoring. Even worse, how about they proof read the guide and look for errors - they have Action Comics 1 listed for $1,000. I know they meant $1,000,000 but jeez, get it right. Here is the funny thing about why I bought this turd of a book. It was not for the price guide, it was to have another source of reference for comics besides the usual suspects. The cover of the book says all the right things - " the only color comic book price guide, 3000+ color covers, thousands of title summaries, illustrated comic guide." Crap, crap and more crap. Just one big pile of crap. Is it color - yes, they did manage to get that correct. Are the covers listed in color - yes, that is correct. The problem is nearly all the covers are 3/4" X 1" thumbnails or smaller. Pretty much the same thing as Overstreet. Completely useless. How about the title summaries? This is laughable, you have to read some these yourself. Why on earth would I care about summary of the "Falcon" from 1983 when the book leaves out dates, appearances, alternatives and other reference material that Overstreet has. The price guide looks like it was written by amateurs. Let's move on to the grading guide - wow is it bad. They have photos of defects but only close ups of the defect. It does not show an overall picture of the book to show what the whole book looks like in that grade. Just terrible. This guide has no redeeming qualities and I would not even use it for toilet paper. I cannot believe how bad this is. Maggie, Brent and Peter ( if you reading this,) never, never, never make another price guide. Some of you may be in the business for 40+ years but this just made you look out of touch. If I could have rated this no stars then I would have.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not Comprehensive Enough 2. Mai 2011
Von R. Kane - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
This guide has about 50 pages of articles and flashy colored photos before it gets to the actual price listings, and I wish they had used that space to list more issues with prices. I bought it to find the value of some Uncle Scrooge comic books I want to sell, but did not find it all that helpful. These were published by Walt Disney Publications, Inc. in the 1990's (issue #'s 243, 262, & 275). I looked under "Uncle Scrooge" and "Walt Disney," but did not find these particular issues listed. I realize that one guide cannot list every issue of every comic book ever printed, but it seems as if the more recent issues are ignored.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Comics finally get justice 24. November 2010
Von Denis Storey - Veröffentlicht auf
It's one thing to love comics, to get swept away in all the color, grandeur and childhood escape. I could go on all day, but I know I'm preaching to the choir.

But it's quite another to love reading about comics, to immerse yourself in them after peeling away the pop culture veneer.

The new Comics Shop does a killer job of doing just that. This first-time buyer's guide from Krause Publications weighs in at a whopping 800-plus pages (and at least five pounds), and already lays claim to the title of the only full-color comic book price guide on the market. It's a beauty, too. And the full-color isn't wasted on some newsprint stock, either, since they printed this on some nice heavy, glossy stock.

But this book shouldn't be judged by its cover - or pages, or its nearly 200,000 listings of comic books circulating out there. The best, and smartest, part of this tome is that solves that classic conundrum of drawing new fans without alienating current readers. Its lengthy illustrated introduction draws in rookies while dropping just enough eye candy and nostalgia for even the most jaded veteran fans.

Feature include grading system explanations, photo grading guides with hundreds of covers images and a wonderful breakdown of how those iconic covers and gorgeous splash pages have evolved over the decades.

Comic books finally get justice this year, with a price guide as fun to read as the comics themselves.
