Good, But Not What I Expected

When I bought this book, I was expecting it to contain lots of in-depth advice about writing; unfortunately, the book is nowhere near as comprehensive as described.
There's an 8-page section in the beginning that grazes over the issues of story structure, creating conflict, etc. Another 6 pages after that discusses (in somewhat more detail this time) how to create believeable enviroments for your stories. The rest of the book is basically like any other Comickers book--loads of lovely coffee-table imagery, peppered with artist interviews and similar behind-the-scenes tidbits.
The major disadvantage of this book (other than the short shrift it gives what is *supposedly* the theme of the book) is the translation. The book was originally published in Japanese, and the translation is a little iffy at times. In other words, most of the time it's hard to tell exactly WHAT the author is trying to say!
If you're looking for in-depth advice about writing manga stories, you're probably better off reading a book like "Making Comics"; or better yet, a book devoted solely to writing techniques, such as "The Lie That Tells The Truth", "On Writing", or "The Hero with a Thousand Faces". The 98 pages of artwork is really good, however, and for you it might be worth getting the book just for that. Just keep in mind that this book is probably not what you would have expected.

Format:Taschenbuch|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
This book is for absolute beginners, not what I thought it would be at all. It has about 6-8 pages about the story writing aspect of manga and the rest of it is art examples. I guess it would be a good introduction into the manga story, but I wouldn't recommend it to those of the more advanced writing school.
