Kurzbeschreibung

5. März 2013 1840227044 978-1840227048
Few American novelists of the twentieth century have stayed as modern as F. Scott Fitzgerald. He gave a name to his age, 'the Jazz Age', but his reputation has outlived it. Gathered here are the five novels he wrote in his relatively short career, together with a number of the many short stories he wrote between 1922 and his death in 1940. This Side of Paradise catapulted him to fame, its expose of the manners and morals of a post-war generation becoming a cause celebre. The Beautiful and Damned, a semi autobiographical moral parable of a doomed marriage, affirmed Fitzgerald's status as the spokesman for the generation of the 1920s. His third novel, The Great Gatsby, remains for many readers the definitive American novel of the twentieth century, its eponymous hero a complex fictional portrayal of a romantic imagination at the mercy of a corrupt reality. Tender is the Night is an American Vanity Fair set on the French Riviera in the 1920s. Fitzgerald was working on The Last Tycoon at his death in 1940, and many critics rank his account of Hollywood at the height of the studio system, even in its unfinished state, as comparable to the achievement of The Great Gatsby.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Warning! No Table of Contents 2. März 2013
Von Weemus - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
As a Kindle reader you may already know that navigation to page numbers and chapters of books is can be difficult. Without a table of contents or any linking guide it is impossible. This edition does not even have a listing of the included works. Other Fitzgerald editions here are better (not the Halcyon one). Be sure to look for editions of books indicating an "active" table of contents before purchasing. The safest bet when perusing Kindle items (all Amazon items in my opinion) is to find ones with customer reviews in case "Active Table of Contents" is not indicated in the product description. Good luck.

1.0 von 5 Sternen No table of contents = Unusable 4. Mai 2013
Von HeidiH - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I accidentally missed the reviewer who already mentioned the missing table of contents. Given a book of this size and multitude of separate works, no TOC makes it essentially unusable. It also makes the product description patently untrue. I'm surprised product vetting hasn't filtered this out yet.

5.0 von 5 Sternen ALL OF FITZGERALD NOVELS IN ONE BIG VOLUME 1. April 2013
Von MICHAEL STODGHILL - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Verifizierter Kauf
I have been reading the novels and short stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald for many years and have enjoyed them very much, especially his short stories. Although he only wrote five novels and about 120 short stories(not counting the 17 Pat Hobby stories), it has been nearly impossible to find a stand alone hardcover volume that contained all five of those novels over the years and I had almost given up hope. I usually had to buy separate paperbacks of "The Great Gatsby" and other novels which eventually became worn or loaned out to friends never to return. That has all changed now with this beautiful hardcover edition from the Wordsworth Library Collection called "THE COLLECTED WORKS OF F. SCOTT FITZGERALD". Included in this 1455 page massive edition are all four novels that the author completed and published during his lifetime: "This Side of Paradise"(1920), "The Beautiful and Damned"(1922), "The Great Gatsby"(1925), "Tender is the Night"(1932) and the novel he was working on at the time of his death, the unfinished "The Last Tycoon"(1941). In addition to the above mentioned novels, this new Wordsworth Library Collection contains twenty-four of his short stories. Some of these short stories had appeared in the 1989 hardcover "The Short Stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald" edited by Matthew Bruccoli which brought together forty-three of his best known short works. This new Wordsworth Library Volume comes in a handsome blue hardcover binding with raised gold lettering on the front(Note: There is no dust jacket so handle with care) and keeps the same design as their previous volumes on such novelists as Jane Austen, the Bronte Sisters and Lewis Carroll among others. There is a table of contents that lists the page number that each novel and short story starts. Wordsworth Library Editions is based in Great Britian but this volume is available from Amazon. I paid about $17.00 including shipping, which takes about 10 to 14 days to arrive. If you love F. Scott Fitzgerald and want to have a beautifully bound hardcover for your library then I highly recommend "The Collected Works of F. Scott Fitzgerald". You can check out other Wordsworth Editions on their website [...]

Even at a modest buck, this is a complete waste of money.

No way I can see to select what I want to read . . . just start at page one and keep scrolling .

No table of contents

1.0 von 5 Sternen Don't waste even 99 cents! 1. März 2014
Von mdpooh - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
What a disappointment.......and pain in the neck! I did read the reviews, especially Michael Stodghill's. Obviously, he did not have the Kindle version of this book. And then there was the review that said they didn't know what the Kindle owners were complaining about. You can get a table of contents by tapping on the top of the page. Yeah, right. Mr. Stodghill said "the Great Gatsby" is in this collection. Nope. 99 cents isn't much but the aggravation is priceless. Don't buy this. I'm going to have to call Amazon on this and complain.
