Great inspiration

This book is NOT your typical quilt technique book. It does not contain patterns, templates, sewing directions, etc. What it does contain is inspiration and another way of designing and creating quilts. When I first looked at the book I was overwhelmed and thought it was much too difficult a process but on second glance I realize that the process is quite doable. The author clearly describes the process of using personal photographs, creating a paper collage and then transforming that collage into fabric. This is not a quick process but the author has included several exercises that lead up to the final project. The book is filled with examples and wonderful photographs. I can't wait to try the process.

Want to Make Your Own Art Quilt?

This week, I reviewed the book, "Collage + Cloth = Quilt" by Blaydon. I've always had doubts about my abilities for making a quilt collage. What would be the theme? How would I know if the pieces fit together to form some kind of meaning? What colors to use- should they blend/contrast/ clash? Do I have anything worth saying in a collage? Does the quilt have to say anything? How would I make it, if I did have an idea? Where would I even begin?
This book is like a breath of fresh air to me in collage-quilt making. It takes the weight off my shoulders for all of my questions! I do have a collection of photos that I like and could play with! I am able to choose what my favorites are, and to use the colors that are in the photos! I do like to cut things up and re-arrange them to make something completely new and pleasing! I can do this!
Not only does this book give you ideas on planning your collage-quilt, but it also shows you how to piece your quilt.
I would recommend this book to anyone who could use inspiration and ideas for making an art quilt! It's nice to have a place to begin with!

This books does exactly what it says in the title. It shows how to takes photos, copy and manipulate them into interesting images and then how to translate those images into fabric. Directions are clear and easy to follow but the instructions allow for much creativity in the reader. Examples are shown of how one photo has been interpreted in many different ways, so the book inspires creativity. It is an excellent reference book for art quilters to add to their library.
