Thirty-seven-year-old Sarah Talbot's lengthy battle with cancer forced her to put life on hold. But a clean bill of health has given her a second chance and she's not about to take anything for granted. Intent on living life to the fullest, Sarah reopens her bedding shop, aptly named Cloud 9, and plans a trip to Elk Island, a tiny island off the coast of Maine, where her unfeeling father and runaway son wait. Family reconciliation has long been her heart's desire, and Sarah knows that now is the time to mend familial fences. On the short plane ride to the island, she finds an unexpected confidant in pilot Will Burke, whose own personal demons make him the perfect conversation partner--and so much more. As Sarah struggles to communicate with the father she left behind and a son troubled by his own father's death--and his mother's illness--she takes refuge in the arms of Will and discovers a love she never thought possible, a love that will sustain the two in this life and beyond. Both beautifully written and well plotted, Cloud Nine is a moving testament to the eternal power of love.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Cloud 9 will really get you to the seventh heaven 24. Juni 2000
Format:Taschenbuch
If you haven't read this book, I suggest STRONGLY taht you should. This book is about life, how people react when facing death in such a close quarters, also how love can really change your view on living. The main character, Sarah, is an extraordinary example of how people struggle to be free of Death's grasp, finds love, and when Death strikes again, she realizes that she no longer can defy it, so she embrace it willingly and to the people around her, the people she loves and loves her, she gives them a lesson that death doesn't mean you're gone from their life, it's just in a different form.
Hint: It's a tearjerker (very much), so I suggest you'd better prepare a box of Kleenex near you.

Sarah Talbot does not expect to see her next birthday as she is dying from a brain tumor. However, miracles still occur and the thirty-six year old single mother totally recovers her health. Sarah reopens up her mail order business CLOUD NINE.
This Sarah is a different person from the one she was before she faced death's door. Her optimism and zeal for life begins to impact the townsfolk of Fort Cromwell, New York. Included in her widening circle are troubled teen Susan Burke and her guilt -laden father Will. As Will and Sarah begin to forge a relationship, they also reach out to their estranged children and other family members.
Readers who peruse a Luanne Rice novel will believe in the power of love to surmount almost any obstacle to a healthy relationship. Her newest novel, CLOUD NINE, will leave fans feeling sad yet good because the audience will adopt the characters who put a little love in their hearts, an emotion which can heal the most recalcitrant family.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Definitely not a keeper! 22. Februar 2000
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
When Rice's "Angels All Over Town" first came out, I rejoiced. Here was a smart, funny, quirky writer who could skillfully blend elements of romantic comedy, melodrama and, yes, even a ghost story.
Where did that Luanne Rice go? "Crazy in Love" retained that sense of quirkiness, but it's been downhill ever since. Her books are growing less sophisticated and more obviously designed for the mass-market romance crowd. She's capable of more. I've bought every one of her books in hardover, praying for that sense of oddball magic, but with this mess, my loyalty has finally reached an end.
Oh... the two stars are for the portrayal of the teen girl, who manages to struggle out from beneath the syrup to engage the reader's attention just long enough to finish the book. As for the rest of it... bleah.

2.0 von 5 Sternen What was the point? 15. Februar 2000
Von Lydia
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Do not read this review if you don't want to know the ending! I liked the characters, I liked the island in Maine, I loved the plot setup. Tell me. What was the point in the heroine dying? I am a two time cancer survivor.I was thrilled to read a story about a survivior with funky Annie Lennox-like hair, who has a second chance. I know people die, but what was the point in having the heroine die in this fictional book? She had her son back, she made peace with her father, made a difference in a young girl's life, and found true love for the first time. I'd devoted hours enjoying this book and the end still has me shaking. It's my worst nightmare of dying from cancer while still young. What was the point in killing Sarah off?

5.0 von 5 Sternen Luanne Rice is an exquisite author! 11. Februar 1999
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
This book ripped my heart out but in a wonderful way. After all, what is Life but a circle that eventually leads to death? The only important thing that makes life worth living is love. And there's lots of that in this book, along with a full gamut of other emotions. Will and Sarah - absolute soulmates. Consider yourself lucky if you ever find the kind of love, respect and happiness they had in each other. And even if death pulls you apart, know that God will reunite you after death with all your loved ones. They did. Without sounding too dark - READ THIS. Yes, you'll probably cry but you'll never forget Sarah and Will, their children and their exquisite story.

5.0 von 5 Sternen I loved this book!!! 28. Februar 1999
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
I loved this book so much, I have been telling everyone get your tea, favorite blanket, and a box of kleenex. I could not put the book down, or the kleenex for that matter. Sarah Talbot is a real hero, and her love is tender and real. I felt so much love in this book, love that I knew, and love that I have never been able to feel until this book. Luanne Rice understands love and the difficulties it brings. She also understands teen agers and there struggle to love and be loved. I finished this book feeling better about having loved, and also for knowing that it isn't always easy to stand still and be loved. I can't wait for her next book

5.0 von 5 Sternen Touching story 26. Juni 2000
Format:Taschenbuch
Never expecting to make it to her 37th birthday, Sarah Talbot has finally received a clean bill of health. A friend gives Sarah a gift of a plane ride for her birthday and she meets the man who will change her life.
Will Burke never expected to fall in love again and Sarah was the last person he could imagine. But love snuck up on the two giving them both a second chance at life. A long holiday weekend to Sarah's hometown of Elk Island, Maine brings two families clos together and two people fall in love.
Luanne Rice has written a tender, moving and heartwrenching novel of second chances at love. Highly recommended.
