3.0 von 5 Sternen Buch hält nicht was der Titel verspricht 27. Februar 2010
Von Jarali
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
Dem Untertitel "Flatter your Figure with the Clothes you already have" konnte das Buch keinesfalls gerecht werden.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Ok, but... 6. Oktober 2006
Von L. Loyd - Veröffentlicht auf
On one hand, this book was a complete breath of fresh air--10 real women, some plus-size, some too skinny, some boyish, some too bosomy, were the models throughout the book. Hooray! Real women in a fashion book. I loved it already. But then as I continued through, I realized that the author's attitude was turning me off completely. "I know your plight" she says, "you don't have a full length mirror anywhere in your house and that's the reason you don't care what your shoes look like with your outfit." ??? We have 2 full length mirrors. I don't know any girl who doesn't. "I know you hate your body parts....but I will show you how to create a silhouette that plays up what you want to show off." I do not 'hate' any of my body parts--I have big boobs, most shirts are not cut for that, but I do not hate them. I wanted a fresh perspective on pulling outfits together for someone with my particular body type, I don't normally wear tents or anything, which seems to be the author's perspective. Another thing was the small comments here and there, such as, after the complete omission of shorts, she says in the concluding chapter "I pray shorts are not in your closet at all." What about the summer months when it's 90 degrees and you're outside all day and skirts are not really going to work because you're chasing children around and would not want to give all the neighbors a show? Practicality has to come in somewhere. Also, some (several) of the "after" pictures that she showed still did not look very put-together to me. All in all, while her aim was admirable, her attempt to speak to "the average person" came off as somewhat condescending, and her fashion "help" was not very helpful. I much preferred "The Lucky Shopping Manual."

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great voice! 21. August 2006
Von College Professor - Veröffentlicht auf
Reading through Emily Neill's book was an extremely inspirational experience. I wanted to go through my closet immediately and start reorganizing and I am pleased to say that I got rid of the one cashmere sweater set that I kept around out of guilt and no longer clung to those black turtle necks that swallowed me up. No use keeping things out of guilt! Out with the shapeless. Emily Neill offered some great advice for all shapes and sizes of women and provided a clear and empowering voice for women to enhance the best and detract attention from the troubled spots. Loved her voice-- straightforward, honest and smart. Thank you!!!! My only request next time is to include the flat chested post two baby body!!!!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Realistic and helpful clothing advice! 16. August 2006
Von twicksie - Veröffentlicht auf
Here's what I really like about this book:

- Actual real people of all sorts (the *REAL* sizes they wear are listed, which is very nice, in all those magazines the stars weights and sizes are totally fabricated, it seems) are used as examples.

- The real people look fantastic and how they got that way is totally reasonable and not due to them changing their bodies, just what they put on them!

- You can totally tell that the clothes they use in the book are like normal "I can buy it at the mall or in a catalog" type of clothes. In so many of the other books I've seen like this, or even in magazines or on those shows, they dress people in crazy expensive stuff so OF COURSE they look good! I'd look good in a Chanel suit too! sheesh! In this book, I actually recognized stuff I'd seen in stores which made it all feel so much more 'do-able'. Very down to earth in that way.

Over all I would highly recommend this book, 5 stars for sure!

2.0 von 5 Sternen could have been smarter 9. März 2007
Von G. Warren - Veröffentlicht auf
There are some good tips here, but an awful lot of the "after" photos were really not wonderful - the clothes were not attractive and/or they didn't fit well. A couple of the "before and afters" just left me confused. So I went to the author's blog and it turns out that pictures were switched in 2 of the examples. But even taking that into consideration, too many of the afters were just not that great. I would have liked to see what the author would have done with a better clothing selection.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Too many contradictions 8. Dezember 2006
Von Catlover - Veröffentlicht auf
Whoever proofread this book should be ashamed of him/herself. There are way too many contradictions throughout the book.

At the beginning of the book Supriya says she is shortwaisted (she is). The author agrees, and says that, "with her short waist", Supriya "needs to elongate the silhouette of her waist". But later on in the book the author states "its fuller skirt conceals her long waist" and says "Supriya can afford to wear higher-waisted pants with her long torso". It's my understanding from all the other fashion books I have read and from looking in the mirror (yes, I have several full length ones) that shortwaisted people such as Supriya and I have relatively long legs and a correspondingly shorter torso, so how Supriya suddenly has a "long torso" beats me.

Similarly, Deborah is 5ft 2" and wears petite sizes. Yet the author writes about Deborah "as someone on the slightly taller side"!

As a result, I think the book is very confusing. If you look only at the photos, she does dress most of them very well, but if you read the accompanying text, it is contradictory.
