The CIA take on Colombian drug lords in Tom Clancy's fifth No 1 bestseller - now reissued with a new cover. Colombian drug lords, tired of being harassed by US law enforcement agents, have assassinated the American Ambassador and the visiting head of the FBI. Their message is clear: leave us alone. But they have pushed too far. The decision is made to send undercover teams into Colombia. Back in the USA, men armed with the most sophisticated tools their country can devise prepare to take the fight to the enemy. But does anyone know who the real enemy is?

Produktbeschreibungen

Amazon.de

At the end of the prologue to Clear and Present Danger Clancy writes, "And so began something that had not quite begun and would not soon end, with many people in many places moving off in directions and on missions which they all mistakenly thought they understood. That was just as well. The future was too fearful for contemplation, and beyond the expected, illusory finish lines were things fated by the decisions made this morning-- and, once decided, best unseen." In Clear and Present Danger nothing is as clear as it seems.

The president, unsatisfied with the success of his "war on drugs", decides that he wants some immediate success. But after John Clark's covert strike team is deployed to Colombia for Operation Showboat, the drug lords strike back taking several civilian casualties. The chief executive's approval ratings plummet. He orders Ritter to terminate their unofficial plan and leave no traces. Jack Ryan, who has just been named CIA deputy director of intelligence is enraged when he discovers that has been left out of the loop for Colombian operations. Several of America's most highly trained soldiers are stranded in an unfinished mission that, according to all records, never existed. Ryan decides to get the men out.

Ultimately, Clear and Present Danger is about moral conscience, law and politics, with Jack Ryan and CIA agent John Clark as its dual heroes. Ryan relentlessly pursues what he knows is right and legal, even if it means confronting the president of the United States. Clark is the perfect soldier, but a man who ultimately values his men higher than the orders of any careless commander.

Along with the usual, stunning array of military hardware and the latest techno-gadgets, Clear and Present Danger further develops the relationships and characters that Clancy fans have grown to love: Admiral James Greer passes the CIA torch to his pupil, Ryan; Mr Clark and Chavez meet for the first time; and other recurring characters, like Robert Ritter and "the President", add continuity to Clancy's believable, alternate reality. This is Clancy at his best. --Patrick O'Kelley -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine andere Ausgabe: Taschenbuch .

5.0 von 5 Sternen A classic action novel. 23. Juni 2000
Format:Taschenbuch
I have always been an avid reader, but for me I have to find a book that not only peaks my interest, but also keeps it. I can't tell you how many unfinished paperbacks I have lying about my house because I just couldn't identify with the book. "Clear and Present Danger" has not been left unread. In fact I have re-read this book on several occasions. I had started to read the Jack Ryan series of novels out of sequence, and then I decided to read them in order. Once I got to this book, I literally could not put it down. It is full of the Clancy trademark "Techno Jargon" but at the heart of it all was a very well told story. If you are not familiar with any of the Tom Clancy novels, this book is one of many in what has come to be known as the Jack Ryan series of books. Jack Ryan is a former Marine, who currently works for the CIA as an analyst. Through a series of very exciting and often sad circumstances, he begins to move up through The Agency and becomes involved in many exciting adventures. Along the way he befriends an operative known as Mr. Clark. Clark is a very mysterious, often ominous figure that appears more frequently as the Jack Ryan series progresses. In this installment the President declares and unofficial and perhaps illegal war against the Columbian drug cartel. The action that takes place deep in the mountains of Columbia is explained in great detail and can often be difficult to read, but when you reach the climax, you will be glad that stuck with this book. If you think you know this story because you saw the movie staring Harrison Ford, you are wrong. The book was so good that I could be nothing but disappointed when I saw the movie. I know several people who have read this book and said they loved it. Lesen Sie weiter... ›

5.0 von 5 Sternen An exciting and suspense filled novel. 2. März 1999
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
An American family is brutally murdered on a private yacht in Caribbean waters. Three American officials are killed on a visit to Columbia. And an undercover war is started between America and the drug empire in Columbia.
Despite its length, this book was real page turner. The plot was very exciting and full of breathtaking suspense. It was also full of specifics about many subjects, from politics to the way a special type of infantry works. I am the type of person who loves that kind of detailed information. Clear and Present Danger also provides an interesting political outlook. In the book, the president begins an undercover war simply because it is election year and he wants to get re-elected. And a high government official gets blackmailed and decides to secretly kill more than 40 people so that he won't be sent to jail. It gives a new and horrible spin to politics.
Tom Clancy is the master of suspenseful action and hasn't let his readers down with this book. This was a great book and one of my favorites. I would definitely recommend Clear and Present Danger to people who enjoy details, suspense, action, and food for the brain.

5.0 von 5 Sternen This book is about witchhunts. 6. März 1997
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Hörkassette
Yes, the novel CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER is about witchunts. The drug war angle only serves to contemporize this serious parody of the of the McCarthy era. Even the name CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER reminds this author of the national situation at that time (as related to me by parents and grandparents). McCarthy used the Clear and Present Danger yardstick as set forth by the Honorable Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendel Holmes in the very earl part of the nineteenth century. So does the president of the U.S. in the novel. In one part of the novel he says that the drug cartels "represent a clear and present danger to national security" and should be handled as such. Justice Holmes said the same thing in his statement speaking for the court he said almost exactly the same thing (some of it EXACTLY the same thing) that Clancy would write under the character of the Commander in Chief.
As a parody of the McCarthy era I think this novel is written exceptionally well. Clancy knows his history and he pays attention to current events. His attention to detail and knowledge of military hardware and the infrastructure of the military society are once again apparrent in this novel. As before Clancy uses well developed characters who are very lifelike. Some of whom his readers have seen before and even some new ones. This authors personal favorite is Army Ranger Commando Domingo Chavez. His reasons and moivations for getting involved are as realistic as any I've seen. He knows drugs are ruining his country-he's seen it on the streets of his hometown-and jumps at the chance to actually do something about it.
I rated this movie a ten without much consideration. And I don't think any consideration was necessary. On a scale of
One to ten, I'd rate this book about a fifteen.
Thank you for you time gentle reader, I will write again.

5.0 von 5 Sternen An essential item for a flight to Australia 29. Januar 1999
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
As Terry Pratchett said, a Tom Clancy novel is an essential piece of equipment for a flight to Australia. Not only are you still reading it when you get there, but you can use it to hit snakes with afterwards.
This isn't a negative comment. It's a positive one :)
Some people complain about the amount of technical detail in Mr. Clancy's books, but I find it adds realism. You're never worried about not understanding how a peice of equipment works in one of his books!
As for this particular one, I've pretty well managed to read the Jack Ryan series backwards, starting at Red October, then Executive Orders and so on back down the line. This book answered so many questions for me it was incredible.
The characters are realistic - even though I wasn't entirely sure who the hero was until I realised it was Ryan. And Clark. And Chavez. And occasionally Moira Wolfe, Captain Wegener, Colonel Johns. And various others I can't remember at the moment. The equipment is lovingly detailed, the locations lavishly described, the total effect quite bewitching.
However...don't try to compare this book to the film. Not only does Dan Murray (look away if you don't want spoilers), who becomes director of the FBI in the last book of the series, get killed (look back now), but Bob Ritter is the semi bad guy who devolps a conscience in the book, versus the snarling, gloating, ruthless ba...person in the film, and so on down the line.
Basically: This book is GOOD! Read it!
