Classic Tracks is a great book and major achievement.
Its 400-plus pages plug you directly into 68 pieces of music that have lit up our lives over the past six decades, taking each song from conception to completion. Read this and you're right there inside the studio (and inside the exotic minds and temperaments) with the Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Springsteen, Doors, Who, Kinks, Clapton, Sex Pistols, Fleetwood Mac, Blondie, Chic, REM, Human League, Madness, Paul Simon, Metallica, Nirvana, Oasis, Michael Jackson, Rihanna and many other all-time greats.
It's obvious that Classic Tracks is written by a pro journalist, a man who can really write - Richard Buskin not only knows how to find the people who've something to say, he can get them talking and realize their voices in print. There are scores of wonderful stories here from authentic first-hand witnesses - singers, musicians, producers and engineers - along with wonderful photos from in and out of the studios, track sheets, the occasional handwritten lyric, and plenty of fascinating extra information in sidebars. For those who want technical details, they're here; for those who don't, and just want gripping real-life stories about the world's biggest musicians and their creative processes, they're here in abundance.
This is a quality product, a lavish and handsome book built to last, and one copy might not be enough - it's the perfect gift for someone you love, for husbands or wives or children or friends, for that special person or those special people you share your music with ... and they'll probably be just as impressed as you are.
