Vampire - The Dark Ages is in my opinion a dark dream full of horror and loathsome Cainites, bound to commit foul murder and pervers acts to survive and keep their sanity. Usually White Wolfs products reflect this kind of atmosphere superbly. In spite of the usual good to great quality of the rules and supplements, the Clanbook: Baali is far from that. 'Cause of the insinnuation made in the rulesbook VtDA (Being rejected by all other clans 'cause of their perversion, cruelty and perversness) and due to the announcements on the back and the first pages of the book, you could expect a full fledged bloodline of monsters, their motivation and a supplement reflecting this in art and text.
But the whole stuff is just FLAT. The Baali just seem a minor version of the Setites, doing infernalism and squabbling over their own organisation. No thread to the rest of Cainites and humyity short of sleeping allmighty masters not to be awakened, no plots within plots to gain might and power, no goals of the fractions of the bloodline, no special description of the seperate fractions. Character-examples that could spring from any other clan and clanbook. Even the artwork is more or less flat, without any edge.
It doesn't help a bad book to be enhanced by some pictures and texts (three or four) that show cruelety and sexuality and then publish it under the label "Black Dog" to show that just adults can buy this. This isn't be the kind of job a good publisher like WW should do.
