I liked the general idea of the book--you should know that I'm secretly a sucker for fairy tales, newly interpreted or original. ;)

One film that is and will always be one of my favourites (at least, when I'm in the mood for something girly and romantic, which, admittedly isn't all that often) is Ever After (A Cinderella Story) with Drew Barrymore.

So, understandably, I was quite curious about this CinderFella story...

It's unfortunately rather short and the plot lacks depth. The story is sweet and enjoyable, but I've hoped for more complications, obstacles or twists, I guess.
Especially the fact that the Prince does not only fall in love with a servant, but with a guy should have caused at least some trouble. But it didn't really. The only complication was for Eldon Cinder to find the courage to reveal to the Prince that the girl he's looking for is actually him.

I certainly expected more, erm, drama, but it's all rather light and, IMO, it seems like it often merely scratches the surface of a story that could have been very good.

Marie Sexton erzählt uns in gewohnt humorvoller Art die Geschichte von Cinderella - oder sagen wir es "grimm"ig: Aschenputtel. Das einzig Originelle daran ist, dass es sich bei diesem Aschenputtel um einen jungen Mann namens Eldon Cinder handelt, der sich in den Prinzen Xavier verliebt und das Glück hat, dass dieses Gefühl erwidert wird. Und das war's eigentlich schon.
Mich hat hauptsächlich interessiert, wie die Autorin es hinbekommt, ein Happyend zu kreieren; ich will jedoch nicht zu viel verraten. Sonderlich einfallsreich ist es m.E. nicht - sie bleibt zu eng an der Vorlage dran.
Da es aber ein ca. 100 Seiten-Text ist, muss man nicht zu lange warten, bis die Spannung sich auflöst. Ob sich das dann wirklich gelohnt hat, muss jeder für sich entscheiden. Ich bin der Ansicht, dass die Autorin es besser kann.

Sexton gets it right! The story of Cinderella is a beloved fairytale in our culture - most love the idea that virtue is rewarded with magic and true love. Many Cinderella re-imaginings skip this essential element of the tale in order to give readers better villains or flashier locales. Sexton sticks to the basics that make fairytales so beloved with delightful little twists that set it apart. I really liked how Sexton made this a true m/m story instead of just changing Cinderella's wardrobe and anatomy. I enjoyed the book and will keep in my library for future readings.

Why a 4 instead of a 5? Two reasons: price and low steamy factor. I thought that the price tag of $4.99 was high for its length. Secondly, the erotic elements of the story were muted. Sexton normally writes incredibly sensual scenes and I was disappointed that this was missing from Cinder.

Loved this new take on an old fairytale 6. Februar 2012

I loved this. It was light and fanciful as a fairytale should be. What a wonderful twist regarding the shoe!

I loved the dog. The prince asks the dog to find the person who belonged to the slipper and he get it right every time, but the prince doesn't get it. That is sooooo clever.

The ending is also clever and make smile at the end. I enjoyed the ending so much, I read it again. Clever, very, very clever.

The writing is clean, crisp and keeps you interested. I am going to watch for this author. Just when you think there is nothing new to be done to the fairytale someone like this imagines it all anew. Wonderful.
