Have you ever wondered what would happen if the government finally ended the first amendment and declares it illegal to bring your faith out in public office? With so few followers in our government it is hard enough for God to give America any blessings at all. This book examines that through the eyes of President Dan Vermeulen and his own struggle with his faith.
America has been nuked in multiple locations and the need for a courageous leader is upon us. But the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and this is where Dan's journey begins. He has many trials before him, but is it too late to save a dying country that has lost it's faith in God?
This book was very hard to put down, likable characters, interesting storyline, and the pacing is wonderful. I like the chapter breaks, some are only 2 pages! It gives you a chance to switch out of the scene more clearly. I read all 360 pages of this book without hardly putting it down. I'm a busy individual and it's rare that I ever do this.
Although this is a Christian-themed book I think a lot of non-believers will find it enjoyable also. It could also give them an idea about how Christians come to believe in the things they do and how they see the world in good or evil terms. Skip really seems to know his stuff and it shows not just in the characters knowledge of their firearms but in their attitudes in how they use them. It's refreshing to read a book where there is action and the author actually understands gun safety and usage.
While I recommend this book highly I have to give a warning about this book also. It does tend to get on the steamy side of some of the characters. Some of scenes, with a character named Calley, become a little too graphic for my tastes. I would not want my wife reading any of these scenes. I really think they were unnecessary, I would have enjoyed the rest of the book without all the sexual descriptions, I thought maybe these descriptions were added for gravitas, but they really seemed out of place with the flow of the story.
Skip has more books available in a variety of topics. I can't wait to check out more!
