Sweet enough to eat 5. Juli 2014
Von Shadowseeker - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I have mixed emotions about this work. On one hand, it's one of the sweetest, cutest stories I've read in a long time that doesn't make me want to gag. On the other hand, it's I've if the sweetest, cutest stories I've read ibn a long time that doesn't make me want to gag.

The Good: There's a leading man that is truly both strong, hard, and utterly male and a complete soft hearted, ooey gooey mess. It's a fine line of hating him and loving him. He's exactly that kind of guy I love reading about. The story itself is cute and still hot. The pacing is one of the best I've read lately. I laughed, I groaned and I liked every minute of it. The peripheral characters were strong enough without being completely whitewashed or overshadowing the story. I got a happily ever after that didn't leave me rolling my eyes.

The Bad: The overuse of the same French words over and over. It's seriously horrible. I almost gave up five chapters in because I didn't want to read them anymore. It was overkill. We know the setting, the characters, we didn't need those words to remind us and they weren't even good French words! For that alone I have to deduct a star. I'm not sure how I felt about Jolie. She annoyed me a lot because she was so one dimensional. Having one flaw isn't complex. She was just flat to me. All of her emotions were the same no matter the actual circumstance. It's a bit repetitive in description. Might have liked to see more of the peripheral characters, if only because I know they appear in other stories. There are times that the heart, the sugary sweet in the love story was too much. I need more bite to the story to fall in love with it completely. This one is heavy on the chocolate and I'm a salt girl. It's also a little light on plot. Their love and the inevitable outcome is set up way too early. There's not enough conflict or intrigue where the romance is concerned. There are missed opportunities for witty banter and real conflict.

It's a good romance story though. Give it a whirl.

More Chocolate Love 12. April 2013
Von Katherine DeVet Schmidt - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Kindle Edition
Laura Florand has done it again! With sumptuous descriptions of food and place, characters that come alive, and sizzling tension from the very beginning, Florand dishes up another sweet love story.

Gabriel & Jolie's story has all the elements I've loved from Florand's previous books. Having both points of view helps the reader to get to know and like both characters quickly. I'm a sucker for the glimpses we have of Gabriel's insecurities, while all of his actions make him seem supremely confident and invincible. Gabriel is a wonderful, enthusiastic hero who jumps into life with both feet, and I was rooting for him to find his heart's desire very early in the book.

Jolie was so much more reserved, and perhaps that is why I felt like I didn't know her as well. I also wondered what it was that tied her so closely to her annoying father. She definitely is a fitting match for Gabriel though and their mutual attraction was very believable and compelling.

I liked seeing and hearing about characters from the other books. It was great to catch up with Daniel and Lea from Turning Up the Heat (another story that I enjoyed).

The writing was mellifluous, smooth and flowing, and added to the enjoyment of the story. One of my favorite lines was "her erogenous zones all skittered like uncontrollable brats." So much fun!

Yummy 50 million stars!!! 12. April 2013
Von Amy M. Pope - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Kindle Edition
Gabriel has to be the most magnificent beast! I actually pictured his roar blowing the hair back from Joselle's face! Hot! Once again, Laura has managed to take me to a corner of France for a romance that unfolds like a beautiful fairy tale. This author is the true master chef in the building of a gorgeous love story. She deftly manages to take you right into the book...all senses engaged. I hear the traffic and the voices, the rain and the music. I smell the roses and lavender and, of course, the CHOCOLATE! I see the brilliant red geraniums and the black-clad Parisians and, of course, the CHOCOLATE! Then there are the true emotions of the characters...all of the characters. Laura somehow, seamlessly, brings every character to life in the storytelling. There is dimension at every corner. I could imagine the frustration of loyalty verses ambition for Raf. I felt the continuing journey into how to BE her true self and DO a successful marriage for Lea. (Thank you for that, Laura) That might be the secret ingredient to the emotional connection to our lead characters...the true puzzle of learning how to give and receive that greatest goal of love and acceptance.
It is refreshing to go into any of Laura's books and find a completely different set of main characters. Each "hero" is a unique individual. Gabriel had his own set of emotional truths, built from past experiences and his particular personality. Jo actually shared an emotional dilemma very much like both Lea and Raphael. Her loyalty to each of her parents was more than a was tangible in the telling. Then there was her desperate need to be seen and be truly cherished for her self, not her actions. (sigh) Boy, did Gabriel ever see her! The balcony...oh my gosh!
Reading all of the books by this author (including her own story in BLAME IT ON PARIS) I almost feel like I experience falling in love each time. I spent 2 days, lost again in Laura Florand's France! And, I can hardly wait for CHOCOLATE TOUCH. I also anxiously await the further adventures of both Raphael and Max.

Sweet, but a bit too steamy for me. I would have appreciated a warning about that part. But ok in general.

A feast for the senses! 16. Mai 2013
Von Confessions of a Y.A. and N.A. Book Addict - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
Loved it! If you've never read a book by Laura Florand before, you have no idea what you're missing out on. Ms. Florand has a great love for chocolate, sweet, and all things French, having lived there for a few years and it shows in her writing.

The part I enjoyed most about this book wasn't the intense chemistry between Jolie and Gabriel, although I did love and enjoy it. It was the description Ms. Florand gave, whether it was about the scenery Jolie saw as she traveled from Paris to Nice, or the food Gabriel cooked in his restaurant. Being someone who is quite visual and easily gets mental pictures, this was a delight of the senses! I wanted to get up and go to France or the nearest French bakery at midnight when I finished reading. Her descriptions of the infamous rose made my mouth water and I wanted it so bad I could almost taste it. Lets not forget the smell of jasmine. This is probably the only time I can say reading about jasmine was a total turn on!

I also loved how the usual role reversal in your average romantic novel was changed. I shan't say much more because it would ruin some of the book for you. Both Jolie and Gabriel are dealing with issues that stem from one man, the great Pierre Manon, Jolie's father. It's wonderful reading about how they work them out.

This glimpse into Provence has left me eager for more. Not just more of this wonderful new series, but also for Laura Florand's Chocolate series as many of past characters are mentioned and a few even have minor roles in the story. There are quite a few eligible bachelors mentioned in the book and I'm wondering who will get their story told next.

I'd also like to thank her for sharing a copy of this wonderful story with me and I am beyond eager for whatever she publishes next. Be prepared for a feast for your senses!
