Kurzbeschreibung

Imagine this: You’re sitting in a coffee shop, paging through your Seattle dining and city guides to figure out what you’re going to do with your day. Suddenly, Tom Douglas – the James Beard Award-winning Seattle chef and restaurateur - pulls up a chair at your table. You chat about all of the things and places you’d like to see in Seattle, Tom tells some stories about what he loves about the city, and then starts jotting down his suggestions on the back of a napkin. He even draws you a little map, giving you tips about some local attractions and great shops along the way. He hands it across the table, bids you a great visit, and you’re off on your adventure.

That’s the idea behind Chef’s Walks Seattle. It’s a casual guide to exploring some of Seattle’s neighborhoods the way only a local chef -with food on the brain! – can, providing suggestions for some of his most-loved restaurants, bars, shopping, and local attractions. This brief, easy-to-use guide includes

• Overview maps and numbered walking points for five Seattle neighborhoods

• Five essays by the author, providing insights into some of the Northwest’s most treasured icons

• Five Tom Douglas recipes that serve up the essence of Northwest cuisine

Tom Douglas is an American chef, restaurateur, and writer. He is well known for helping to define Northwest cuisine and igniting the Seattle restaurant scene, winning the James Beard Award for Best Northwest Chef in 1994. His restaurants include Dahlia Lounge; the Greek-inspired Lola; Serious Pie pizzerias; Palace Kitchen; Pike Place Market’s iconic seafood restaurant, Etta’s; and the newly opened Seatown. He also owns Dahlia Bakery, famous for its Triple Coconut Cream Pie. Douglas is the author of “Tom Douglas’ Seattle Kitchen,” named Best American Cookbook by the James Beard Foundation, “Tom’s Big Dinners,” and “I Love Crab Cakes!”

Chef's Walks Seattle is available exclusively in the Amazon Kindle store.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Travel and see great Seattle neighborhoods with an expert at your side 15. Januar 2011

One of the best ways to see a new area is through the eyes of someone who has been there for years. This concise guide is a perfect introduction to the culinary and cultural history to five neighborhoods of Seattle, with Tom Douglas as your guide.

Tom Douglas is a great choice to provide the first of these travel and eating guides. With a good sense of direction and some clever anecdotes, Tom and co-author Shelly Lance provide a great introduction to Ballard, Bainbridge and other great Seattle areas. The content is well-written and sprinkled with a few recipes to spice up the trip. If you have an extra day in the area, it is very tempting to just try to recreate the journey.

A great idea, well executed, and hopefully the start of a great series of Kindle publications.

I love Seattle and Food... So this little book written by Tom Douglas was a real find. I found new places I didn't know existed (several)! I ordered it for my Kindle, so it arrived at warp speed. I read it in a few minutes and immediately head to Seattle, (actually, I had a trip planned the next day, since I live 2 hrs. away.) It made my day so much fun. Check out the Sausage, pasta cheese place near Pioneer Square one block N of the train station, a must to visit and you may just get to see them making gnocchi in the window. Thanks Tom and Amazon.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not my favorite guide book 23. Januar 2011

I have been to Seattle numerous times and absolutely love working my way through the many fabulous restaurants. In addition, I love Tom Douglas' restaurants so I figured this would be a sure winner. Unfortunately, it was just mediocre. Tom clearly loves his city, but I would have preferred a more in-depth guide to pike place market as well as many other unknown gems. This felt like a tourist guide with recipes without any hidden insights or gems. I had thought this guide book would have me salivating to try different stops in Seattle, but unfortunately, I will have to look elsewhere for foodie finds.
