Payback (Channeling Morpheus) by Jordan Castillo Price
Michael is a boy in hunt. Not for a one night stand but for a vampire. His best friend, Scary Mary, was murdered by a vampire and Michael has spent years to track down the monster. But Michael is not a bold and daring vampire hunter, he is only a goth boy with no much experience of life: in the parcel where he hides the stakes he also takes his favourite eyeliner...
Then finally he finds the club where the vampire prowls. But when he is there he is cruised by Wild Bill: a handsome and selfconscious man, the type Michael will be glad to hook up with if he isn't waiting for a vampire. And then the vampire, Gray, arrives but Wild Bill refuses to let them alone and he tags with them. Maybe Wild Bill will be the key of success for Michael?
The story is very short, less than 40 pages, but it's very very good. I like a lot Michael, so naive and innocent, so pure. And Wild Bill is the right man for him, so bold and sexy. I would be glad to read the de-virgination of Michael by hand of Bill.
This is the first in a series, and I hope the following enstallment will be a continuing story on Michael and Bill. Cause I want so much to read what happens to them!
Vertigo (Channeling Morpheus 2) by Jordan Castillo Price
In the second enstallment of the Channeling Morpheus series, the focus changes from Michael to Wild Bill. This time is Wild Bill's voice who tells us the story and Wild Bill is also the new target of the amateur vampire hunter Michael.
Michael is young, very young, and also eager for love. When with the help of Wild Bill he killed the vampire responsible for the death of his dear friend Mary, Michael has not finished his work. He nominated himself the man who has to kill all the "bad" vampires, but now he knows that not all the vampires are "bad" and Wild Bill is among the good ones. And Michael wants his night of love with him before continuing his mission. Even if Wild Bill is not all willing to share that night with him.
Michael is grown; from the frightened boy of the first book to the little teaser of this one. And Will Bill is aging... oh well, he is starting to feel the burden of a lonely life and he also is unable to forget Michael. Michael is all what he is no more: young, open and eager of life.
The story is very short, little more than 40 pages, but it's very interesting. I like these little sexy scenes between Michael and Wild Bill, always ending with a next appointment planned between the two. It's also a game play, first the ball is on one side, then it's the turn of the other man to play; where, when and how is a decision of the man with the ball, and the other should play by the rules... of love.
Can't wait for another chapter in this very good series.
Manikin (Channeling Morpheus 3) by Jordan Castillo Price
At the end, Michael and Wild Bill's relationship has an "official" recognition... In the first book, Wild Bill seduced and abandoned Michael, in the second book Michael seduced and abandoned Wild Bill... it's obvious that both of them are playing hard to get but that they want to be together. And so in the third book, Wild Bill again rescues Michael from a very dangerous situation involving a rogue vampire and this time he remains also in the aftermath, to share an hot night with Michael... what will happen the morning after maybe we will know in another chapter.
Michael is a young boy, and even if he has seen terrible and unbelievable things, he still remain a lonely boy running away from his family and maybe from a world that doesn't accept a gay goth guy. In a way, the world that Michael apparently wants to destroy, the vampire underworld of unsuited and unstable, is also the world that accepts Michael. Wild Bill is part of that world; a vampire who didn't want to be, an undead who still tries to live as a mortal, who cares for wordly things like fashion and, even if he doesn't want to show it, cares for Michael's feelings. Wild Bill tries to give to Michael a "normal" relationship, made of sex and sharing, a relationship the young boy needs to replace his lost family. Maybe Wild Bill tries to give to Michael what he lost when he became a vampire, at least the boy can have it.
And sex is a really important part of this urban paranormal series; truth be told, sometime I skip a sex scene to read the "story", after all how much original you can be describing sex? But Jordan Castillo Price makes the sex scene a very important element of the story, every detail is important and you are compelled to read it; she is so good in doing that that you can almost feel what Michael feels...
Tainted (Channeling Morpheus 4) by Jordan Castillo Price
Michael and Wild Bill are living together since two years. They are still wandering around in the van Wild Bill gave to Michael and like a strange family in perennial road trip, they live of drugstore and diner. Nor Michael or Wild Bill feel the necessity to set down, but Wild Bill's perception of Michael is changing; he is beginning to worry for Michael's health and comfort. Wild Bill is always ready to satisfy every little desire of his boy, from the material to the sexual one. But more than Michael's cravings, what worries most Wild Bill is the slowing but continuing wasting away of Michael. He is more thin every day that passes, and even if the Twiggy's look is good on him, Wild Bill fears that vampyrism is claiming hm.
Michael and Wild Bill's relationship is tunnelling in everyday life. The role are forming, and Wild Bill is assuming that of the wise man; before he never has to worry of home or stability. Now he has another man to take care, and Michael is so young.
Michael is like a teen, he never worries of food or clothes. Give him a new high tech toy and he can go on for day without eating or sleeping. The only thing that seems capable to distract him is sex, he never pulls back when Michael involves him in a new sexual adventure... maybe he is shier than the older man, public sex is something that he is still not comfort to. Sometime it's like if Michael is more worried to display his gayness than the fact that Michael is a vampire.
There is no more doubt that Michael and Wild Bill are a couple, no more thought on leaving, nor on Michael or in Wild Bill. They are not yet like a normal happy gay couple, more like two drifter who chose to walk together.
This last chapter on the series, is more sweet and less gothic than the previous one, it's like an aftermath of a climax, things are settling down.
Rebirth (Channeling Morpheus 5) by Jordan Castillo Price
Michael and Wild Bill are still together and still in love, but maybe the wandering life is starting to wear down Michael, and maybe, even if he would never admit it, also Wild Bill. And so this fifth chapter begins with Michael coming back home like the prodigal son: but what family, even if a loving one, would be happy to see their son throws away all the chance of a good and steady future? the gay news could be overcome, but the fact that Michael doesn't want to go to college is all another question.
And so Michael and Wild Bill are again on the street and since the chance with their natural family didn't go well, why not try with a vampire community? mmm, things are not easy, and maybe out two heroes are not fated to be a normal couple with a normal house and a front garden, and maybe a puppy... even if, truth be told, I can see Michael as a college student coming back home everyday to Wild Bill, and then the two falling in a routine with the sunday lunch with Michael's family... and maybe also the author is seeing beyond Michael's gruff exterior, since one of the most sweet and sexy scene of all the book is when Wild Bill tenderly washes out all the make-up from Michael's face, to see, for the first time, the real man under it... and it's not a real man, it's barely a boy, with all the dreams of a boy.
Little by little, Michael and Wild Bill are learning to build a world for their own, a world where a vampire and an hunter can fall in love and having an happily ever after... maybe...
