To all the ladies riding the expat rollercoaster: Have you ever heard of
the portable career movement? Have you ever dreamed of finding a
work that is based on what you love to do and at the same time moves
when you do? Have you ever wondered how you could build up a
career of your own while following your partner abroad?
If you want to run a business from your kitchen table or home office,
find a part-time or full-time contract work, develop a company or
simply want to find something to do that can be sustained as you
move from place to place - this book is for you!
Jo Parfitt, an accompanying partner herself with more than 20 years of
experience in living abroad, built up her own portable career and
shares her experience with us.
This 3rd edition of A Career In Your Suitcase provides in 11 chapters a
lot of tools to help you self-assess your passion, drive, skills and goals
and it offers real-life quotes from men and women living the portable
career.
At the end you'll find 60 Brilliant Ideas that have worked for Jo
herself or for people she knows. These ideas will help you to get
started as they offer a wide range of possibilities such as looking after
people's holiday homes off-season, teaching people things that are
easy to you, using your creativity, exporting local goods or importing
goods from home, and so on.
You'll find a lot of comprehensive advice, real-life stories, ideas,
checklists and hands-on exercises to get you stared.
No matter how old you are, if you live as a couple or have children, no
matter if you have always dreamed of a career of your own or if you
are following your partner abroad looking for something to do, this
wonderful, inspiring book should go into your suitcase!

Chock Full Of Vital Info For The Ex-Pat 23. Dezember 2008

I had a chance to read Jo Parfitt's book on recent Med Cruise. I then met her during a side trip of the cruise in Amsterdam which is where I did the video review. If you are an expat or want to be a productive and profitable expat Jo's book is THE starting place.

Not just for "ex-pats" 30. Mai 2011

I use this book alot with international clients who aren't authorized to work in the United States... although it was initially written for American "trailing spouses" who were living abroad. An added feature is that we often think of the relocated spouse as a women. This book addresses the relocating male and his special issues associated with following a career wife. I think it is an excellent book for anyone considering a portable career. It takes the reader through the traditional career assessment exercises then offers practical ideas, strategies and resources for starting a career that can be sustained where ever you live.
An essential manual for the career-minded 'trailing spouse'! 8. Februar 2011
Von Mrs Shelley Antscherl - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
How can you forge a fulfilling career overseas if you are the `trailing spouse'? What if your former occupation and credentials just aren't recognized in your new country? And if you do find a job what happens to all your hard work when you have to move on again?

A Career in Your Suitcase describes itself as `the definitive expat career bible' and this is no idle boast.

Jo Parfitt is a one-woman industry when it comes to expatriate matters and has used her own experiences to create a successful, multi-faceted and portable career as a writer, publisher, speaker and mentor, and in her own words, she just wants to `share what she knows to help others grow'. And she does this with refreshing aplomb.

Creative tips are combined with practical tools to help you identify your passions and accomplish career goals no matter where in the world you find yourself. And in conjunction with all this, there are tons of useful websites listed throughout.

What you get is not some woolly self-help guide, but a very readable, yet practical instruction manual packed full of imaginative ideas and essential information about creating professional CVs, the art of networking, successful job hunting and much much more.

Whatever your passions are, or even if you haven't discovered them yet, this book will help you find them. But make no mistake, it's not for the half-hearted so if you're still enjoying the freedom from work and the delights of your new culture then don't put down your copy of HELLO just yet...

But if you're self-motivated and serious about rediscovering your professional identity abroad, and you want to create and develop a fulfilling but portable occupation, then A Career in Your Suitcase will give you an excellent return on your investment.
