I think there is basic information in this book. Not enough to start canning just from this book. This is what I think based on the years of canning I have done. Over 35 years.

If you are new to canning, this book will give you a sense of what you need to know if considering canning.m

The book includes safety tips, where to find jars, a few recipes you might like to try, and tells you were to purchase supplies.

It is not a book of recipes, it is a book of canning tips and tricks, there is only a handful of recipes. I am just getting into canning again and am having a great time doing it. I learned to can in home economics, back when they taught that class to young ladies, but canning has changed a lot due to finding out certain methods could result in spoiled food. It was nice to have a book of basics to start my research again.

I found this guide on canning and preserving food to be very useful.
After reading it, I was able to truly realize how great it can be to preserve your food in cans, as it allows it to last for a very long time.
This book explains how to get started, what to do, how it works, what to expect, and all the other little details you need to know.
Because of this, the book is great for beginners.
If you're interested in canning and preserving, then you'll probably find this very useful for you.
Overall, I highly recommend this book.

I always loved the idea of canning but I thought it would be really difficult, expensive, and would take a lot of learning and equipment for me to do it myself. Not so, as I learned from this book.

Canning and Preserving at Home: The Ultimate Beginners Guide was great for me since I've never canned before and wouldn't have known where to begin without this guide. Not only did it teach several different ways to can so I wasn't lost without some materials, but it gave me recipes beyond canning and preserving zucchini. Chili con carne? Blackberry jam? Yes please.

Great guide for any canning and preservation beginner.

As a child, I watched my mom (who lived through the depression), can vegetables, fruits, jellies, and jams, every summer. She would drag my two sisters and I to "pick-your-own" fields of tomatoes, strawberries, and assorted vegetables. Then it usually was off to the woods for huckleberries, blackberries, and blueberries. As a child, I never understood why "we" did all of that work when there were grocery stores all around! Until I grew-up!

The vegetables and fruit from cans that came from grocery stores, never seemed to taste right, if they had any taste to them at all! Even the best-named-labelled jams and jellies failed to measure up! I wondered what was wrong, we're my taste buds loosing it? Until the summer of 2014!

The Fort where I'm stationed, participated in "Market on the Move," where we could purchase 60 lbs of produce for $10. (Arizona residents should really check this out!). My wife and I invested in canning equipment and jars, and realized not only the fun of canning, but the sense of accomplishment when friends ask what brand of salsa, jelly, or whatever, and we tell them it is "homemade." the look of surprise is priceless!

This book is a tremendous addition to my growing library of "How to ..."! It is filled with practical, applicable, and encouraging tips for both expert and novice alike! After reading this book, I want to go find a farmer's market so I can "can" something!

Thank you Ms. Craig for both bringing back some now fond memories, and for the excitement of future canning endeavors!
