Kurzbeschreibung

Akira and his classmates are on a plane heading back home after a field trip abroad. Suddenly the plane crashes on a mysterious island. Akira is somehow still alive despite the crash, but soon discovers that he's not exactly safe and sound when enromous supposedly extinct beasts begin chasing him. Akira begins to find other classmates who have also survived the crash. Some work together and some work against each other in an effort to survive on the strange island. FIGHT AND/OR FLIGHT? As if being stranded on a deserted island full of prehistoric beasts wasn't bad enough, now there's a killer among the human survivors of the plane crash. Akira Sengoku and his classmates are forced to fight and flee dangerous monsters of a bygone era, all while keeping themselves safe from a hockey-masked madman who seems bent on Akira's destruction. When the chips are down, can Akira and his ragtag band of survivors defend themselves against both man and beast? Find out in this action-packed second volume of Cage of Eden! Includes special extras after the story!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Very addicting! 5. Mai 2012

When I read volume one, I'd liked it but didn't really know if it was something I could see myself getting into. After all, it's a pretty long series, which I'm not always a fan of. (Mostly because it means that there's the potential for a lot of filler ala Naruto or InuYasha.) This series so far has surprised me.

The fanservice is still going strong in this book and I'm rather impressed at how the series can cram it in there while still making it seem somewhat natural for it to occur. Yeah, you're going to see panty shots and cheesecake images galore, but it's not done at the sake of the book's plot or its characters. I wanted to mention and emphasize this in my review because much of the time you'll see fanservice that's gratuitous to the point where you'll get "Girl A falls down for little or no reason and all her clothes fall off". (Seriously, I saw an anime where this happened.)

The plot is pretty nice as well. I'll admit that I've looked ahead a little in the series on Wikipedia, and the series has a lot of promise for those who love a good mystery. For the plot right now, though, we've got a decent buildup of the characters and their abilities. I do occasionally wonder about the power levels of Mariya's computer, as it seems to have almost unlimited levels of energy. It's a small quibble, especially in a series where you have ancient critters getting ready to nom down on our intrepid young heroes and heroines, but it keeps sticking in the back of my mind. (Although I expect that eventually the computer's loss of power will become a plot point later on.)

I have to say that I rather like the risks that the series is taking. I can't go into too much detail, but I'll say this: this is very much a "nature, red in tooth and claw" type of series. It doesn't hold up the idea that everyone must survive, nor does it try to keep everyone absolutely safe.

Not everyone will like this series, mind you, and people looking for the next weird mind trip "people stuck on an island with strange things ala LOST" might be disappointed that this is more action driven than anything else, at least so far. For those who love action, pretty girls and fanservice, and strange beasties, this is going to be right up their alley.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A perfect blend of classic disaster elements 7. Juni 2012
Von GraphicNovelReporter.com - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Cage of Eden is a perfect blend of classic disaster elements to keep any reader dying to know what happens next. Think of this series as a combination of elements of the films Lord of the Flies and Jurassic Park, only with creatures from a different time period than dinosaurs. Just like in the former of the two, groups of survivors form with the sole purpose of finding a way to survive and ultimately escape this little corner of hell.

Akira Sengoku is struggling to maintain his own cool while keeping his friends alive, but with monstrous creatures roaming everywhere, it is a wonder he has not lost anyone in his group. In the midst of it all, a psychopathic killer-student calling himself "Hades, Lord of the Underworld" suddenly abducts him and tries to kill him.

Even if Akira and his friends meet up with other students and attempt to get off the island, there is no telling if the next island they find will be any better, not to mention the monsters dwelling in the ocean itself. It seems impossible for them to catch a break, coming a hair's breadth from death many times.

Yoshinobu Yamada has played his cards right with this piece of work. This survival horror manga has all the building blocks of an excellent series. One can only read in horror as they wait for the next installment to come their way.

4.0 von 5 Sternen But it is still a great example of a well thought out manga story 1. August 2014

I would give this five stars if it had been available in a well-made Hardcover omnibus edition, perhaps fully colorized. But it is still a great example of a well thought out manga story.
