Variety is the spice of life 13. Februar 2006

I am so impressed with the patterns packed into this book, there is certainly something for everyone no matter what your taste in here. You just have to see the "Maid Marian Cloak", and one of my favorites is the crocheted "Cinderella Cape". I love the layout of the book, the schematics are very clear, and I myself really like the way the different sizes are presented....very easy to follow.

As a bonus you do get a "leggings" and some "Gauntlets" in here that of course you can make probably to match just about any of the patterns.

Edie Eckman Proves there *are* still more ponchos and wraps to make! 29. Januar 2006
Von Amy O'Neill Houck - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This is a great little collection which includes designs by Lorna Miser, Gwen-Blakley Kinsler, Jill Wilcott and more. It's a well-designed book with lots of photos and clear instructions, charts and technique tips. There's a comprehensive index, and an appendix about how to find the yarn in the book. Oh, and crocheters will be happy to know that not only is the cover pattern crocheted, but there's lots of crochet in the book as well. I do wish that real models rather than mannequins had been wearing the garments in the photos. One other great feature is that some of the garments are actually shown twice in two different yarns.

Jill Willcot has my favorite knit pattern in the book--it's barely a capelet--more like a cowl-neck that just happens to fall past the shoulders. It's a beautiful, modern design done in fall colors and it looks fun and easy to make. Kathleen Power Johnson has a shrug that uses a cool, unusual stitch pattern--it's a vertical zig-zag done using a crossed stitch pattern that gives great dimension to the piece.

maid Marian 8. März 2006
Von M. Poller - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

How can I resist knitting a cape with my name on it? Buying this book sight unseen, I was really delighted when it came. However, I am not an enthusiast of the way the instructions are presented. It doesn't work when the patterns get harder. Some of the patterns as the aran poncho become extremely complicated and you have to look on several pages while doing it. The Upcountry poncho (knitted) is another lovely one. I also want to use my Kureyon yarn in the Rainbow poncho.

I like several of the crochet items too: the golden mesh wrap and the coral capelet. The book is a small gem recommended for everyone but the beginner.

Not bad 1. Dezember 2010
Von Serena Reed - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
The book features 16 designs. 10 are knit and 6 are crochet. I legally cannot knit yet, so I can only say that most of them looked at least interesting. Not extremely unique, but not a lot of 'been there done that' stuff that you often come across in these books. I like the look of the book. I thought it was cute and it made it stand out. A good sturdy idea. Now for the 6 crochet designs... Well, to be fair, I am not tiny. Not even a little bit. I am also top heavy which makes anything like capelets look ridiculous on me unless they are plus sized. Of course that isn't the case here. I found no references to modifying items to suit different sizes. The faux fur muffler is not bad, but the only thing you do is make a grid with a plain yarn then weave a fancy yarn through it. I saw this done before on TV and was not very impressed. There is a golden mesh wrap that is basically like an open large lacy pattern that was made in a heavy yarn that just makes it look cheap and weird. There is a shrug pattern. I don't know who still wears them, but I doubt it if they would make this one. It has not been updated from the 90s style at all. I actually like the pattern for Meg's poncho and I thought about making it, but after finding no instructions for size adjustment, I gave up. I got my copy from the library and I will not be buying it. However, it does contain some promise for knitters! I would say that it is worth checking out.

Projects vary greatly in difficulty level so as to appeal to all types of users 27. Mai 2006
Von Midwest Book Review - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
There are so many books covering crochet and knitting and that could be hard to see the need for yet another: a new book would have to incorporate a lot of appeal, from a zany cover to original patterns - and KNIT & CROCHET PONCHOS, WRAPS, CAPES & SHRUGS does just this. Projects vary greatly in difficulty level so as to appeal to all types of users, use the latest novelty yarns as well as classics, and provide a wide range of styles. A hardcover with odd-cut edges and bright cover grabs the eye, while lovely photos of completed projects accompanies clear step-by-step designs for added attraction. It not only 'shows' well: it holds curb appeal and an 'easy use' format which is most inviting.
