"... the art merely became like a domesticated wild cat, content to sleep whilst still retaining a savagery at its heart enabling it to bare its teeth when required." - John Dowding, 4th degree Ch'ang Hon Taekwon-do Hae Sul: Real Applications To The ITF Patterns, Vol. 2 continues where the ground breaking Vol. 1 left off. In Vol. 2 the senior patterns of the Ch'ang Hon System up to 2nd Dan, have gone through the same in-depth analysis as the lower grade patterns originally did, with each one having been examined, dissected and rebuilt to help the student of Taekwon-do to understand what is really contained within the patterns we practice in Taekwon-do. Patterns Hwa-Rang, Choong-Moo, Kwang-Gae, Po-Eun, Ge-Baek, Eui-Am, Choong-Jang, Ko-Dang and Juche have been examined in-depth to find more realistic applications for their movements - based upon what the author refers to as their 'DNA'. In this volume, even the ready postures and stances have been examined and the results are documented in step by step photographic detail, using over 2,200 photographs. Comprising over 350 pages, this book not only shows more realistic applications to the Red Belt, 1st Dan and 2nd Dan patterns, but also explains how it is possible to achieve these applications in the first place, why General Choi, Hong Hi, the founder of Ch'ang Hon Taekwon-do couldn't make the same conclusions, as well as expelling a falsehood that has been with Taekwon-Do since its inception! After reading this book, the patterns of Taekwon-do no longer seem just a collection of movements, performed in a dance-like fashion for competitions or gradings, but become realistic techniques that can actually be utilised as real world self defence applications - making this a must-read companion to Vol. 1, for all students who study and practice Taekwon-do.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Another good book by Mr. Anslow 19. August 2012
Von Douglas G Nowling - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
The latest in a series of books by Mr. Anslow is good, however, volume one was better, and very few new information in my opinion has been formed. Of course, I am coming from a self defense aspect, those schools that don't then this is well worth it. This volume could have been simpler in by adding information based on the new techniques at each pattern/level and composing all the Red/Black belt patterns instead of breaking it up. I would recommend this others, but, would do so only if I feel it would benefit them because the lacked a deeper knowledge because they never had the previous foundations, but would still recommend the first in this series over the others.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A must for All ITF Taekwon-Do Instructors & Students 23. August 2012
Von Bryan Galke - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Verifizierter Kauf
I have been training in Ch'ang Hon Taekwon-Do since 1973, I have had some outstanding instructors, including Grand Master Sereff (and some not so good), but none of them has taugt me so much in depth about Taekwon-Do as Vol 1 & 2 of Mr. Anslow's Hae Sul. I feel a bit cheated in my last 30+ years of training. So I have now made study of these two books mandatory for all of my Red and Black Belts at Centennial Taekwon-Do. I know that this indepth knowledge will not only make my students better, but make our school stand out from all of the McDojangs in the area.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great book 28. Juni 2013
Von Jeffrey Cuevas - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Verifizierter Kauf
SO far I have been impressed by Instructor Anslow and his knowledge of applications. In this second book with advance forms you will learn his ideas and theories of self defense. Many techniques are shown and many maybe implied. All in all a book worth having for any TKD, Shotokan, or Shorin Ryu stylist.

Many Thanks Instructor Anslow

5.0 von 5 Sternen Serious Taekwon-Do book 30. April 2013
Von W. McMillin - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
The first volume of this series came out when I was nearing my 1st dan test. It helped me become a much more serious practitioner and commit more fully to Taekwon-Do (I had been considering switching back to a karate style that I previously studied). Anslow does a magnificent job of breaking the form down and showing the applications. He does a great job of showing things that could work and have real world applications. Too many books show things that would be impractical and even dangerous to do. Do I agree with every technique? No, but that is only because I have a different martial arts background and see things differently. Do I have any disagreement with techniques as presented? No. I believe that everyone could be done by a serious Taekwon-Do practitioner. I work on the applications when I teach the first three dan patterns. I have used the breakdown on the two forms that I am currently working on for my 3rd dan test (my organization does the forms in a slightly different order then most so one of the forms must be in hopefully forthcoming 3rd volume). This book comes in hardback which makes it much more likely not to be harmed when going in and out of my gear bag. I know that some have complained about the first four chapter because they want to just study the forms. I believe the first four chapters are necessary to explain where Mr. Anslow is coming from when reading the book. I always try to stress to my classes that one never stops working on basics. A good book and a must for any Taekwon-Do library (and for any applications karate library). A big thank you to Mr. Anslow for looking for what was missing in Taekwno-Do books and trying to address it, rather then just giving us the same book that everyone else has. When does the third volume arrive?

5.0 von 5 Sternen This is fantastic work by the author and you should get it. 9. August 2014
Von MikeW - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Bought this after getting volume one. It deserves 5 stars. I've trained ITF since 1981, and teach regularly 2- 3 times per week. I've always loved patterns, and taught various applications that I had picked up here and there. Most of these applications were picked-up by students, myself and others, that ventured into other styles to supplement our training. In my case I trained in jujitsu for a while and noticed the sequence of movements was very similar to our patterns, although the individual techniques and applications were different. This work by Mr. Anslow in my opinion is a masterpiece! This book will help you understand patterns by answering the fundamental question of why do we do it this way. More than that, understanding the applications brings patterns to life; it will reinforce the necessity of solid fundamentals, visualization, and add meaning to your pattern work. It makes teaching more interesting and fun for both instructor and student. The only criticism I have is that it seems that some applications are created to fill a hole; i.e. I don't think every single movement or sequence of movements has an application other than the obvious, or a way to get from point A to point B. If the author ask my opinion, I would suggest structuring the flow of the text to focus on the primary sequences and various applications to them, followed by less interesting alternatives and the "holes" afterwords. This would be great in a complete 3 vol set with color pictures! This is fantastic work by the author and you should get it.
