For many in the business community, networking can be a strain but it is an expected role you have to be involved in as part of your employment, particularly in sales roles. Liz Cassidy offers very practical, 'no buts' approach and easy to follow advice on networking which assists in giving you confidence to network more effectively and perhaps.....even enjoy it!

This book offers simple, easy to follow and yet what are clearly effective steps that almost anyone can take to build their business using one of the most powerful and economical marketing strategies: that of building a powerful business network. Whilst I would have liked to have seen a longer and more in depth treatment of psychology of building a network, Cassidy has probably got it right by pitching it at "networking 101 level". Regardless of that, I suspect that whatever your level of experience in business, if you like the idea of simultaneously helping others and growing your business, then this book is for you.

Its refreshing to find a book in this category that comes from a place of service and value-adding. Working in a public safety industry organisation its hard to find anything that offers ideas on professional (not just financial) development and supports and confirms the value of doing business in and for the community. This slant on networking is not new to me..just thought I was the odd one out! Good one.

Business Networking Success, by Liz Cassidy, is written by a self admitted kinesthetic. As a consequence her focus tends to be on networking 'belly to belly'. For example, 42 pages of the 64 pages in the book (66%), is in chapter 6 where Liz introduces two really useful tools for developing what I call 'belly to belly' relationships. One tool in particular is introduced as one for introverts to use - and I agree with Liz, it is a great tool.

The chapter on 'other forms of networking', covering online networking, just sneaks into two pages with the statement ' is much more effective if you can do it offline.' Great idea, however, in 2013 online networking is becoming an important precursor to offline meetings. I trust in the next edition of the book more attention is placed on this.

The other interesting statement Liz makes is 'I am imagining you are a female reader...' which I am not, so perhaps I am missing the point.

The chapters in this 64 page Kindle book are;

4. What Do I Bring When I am Networking?

I suspect this book will be ideal for people either entering the workplace or re-entering the workplace after an absence. Liz provides some worksheets to help you find your first few contacts, and some ideas to develop your network further. If you are looking for serious business networking tools Liz provides an excellent resource in chapter 8 and refers to one of my favorite networking books Endless Referrals, Third Edition by Bob Burg.

It's very refreshing to read of practical steps to networking that have been tried and that work and that avoid the ubiquitous scones and jam. The authority of someone who is a leader in leadership is evident.
